Oil breather pipe location on E92 335D
Hi
Can anyone tell me where this is located? I have had a look on realoem but for the life of me cannot work out where it is as there are numerous hoses/vacuum pipes |

Lol, erm I'm not counting on anything until Feb now, its very annoying that the supply seems to have 'dryed up'. But will let you know as soon as I do

if you mean the crankcase breather....
take engine cover off & you will see it on the left hand side of the engine on the top. The pipework actually bends round the oil filler neck. Follow this backwards to the crankcase breather & downwards where it eventually joins the pipe above the red boost pipe. I found the connections on this pipe work quite poor & put on a few jubilee clips to secure. Take the air box out to check lower connection |

Thanks for that, I have just searched and read your thread#http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=595716
Is it just a matter of making sure the connections are secure and putting on a jubilee clip? or is it better to replace with a new part? |

to be honest it's worth looking first before buying a new one as you may have the modified bits already fitted. 15 min job to inspect
I bought the plastic crankcase breather thinking I had the old type but I had the new one already fitted so still have the new one sitting on my desk. The plastic pipe that goes around the oil filler neck was deformed one end & wasnt sealing so the new part came in handy as the quality of the original was shocking even though it was the latest modified version. The old one was deformed at one end & not possible of creating a sealed joint. Have a look & use jubilee clips to help it all seal as mine was leaking eveywhere. It's dead easy to check once you see how it all fits & where it goes. |

clips are approx 25mm
crankcase breather was clean as was the pipework apart from the oil residue which is constantly there. once you start looking at it you wont need more than 20 mins to see the state of it all as it comes apart easily. Too easily hence the jubillee clips being fitted. Let us know you findings.... |

Thanks Jimmy, I will probably check this out on Sunday as Ive ordered a new red boost pipe which I am going to attempt to fit (if I can figure out how to release the old one as I cant get my head around unclipping it without snappping someting lol)
I did have a quick look today around the area and can see some oily deposits but wont know fully until I have taken the engine cover off. Btw in your link have you had various vac hoses replaced? Some of mine the outer mesh is frayed and was thinking of replacing them but have no idea how much tubing I need/what size etc |

my vac tubes were changed when I had 2 new turbo solenoids replaced & was handed back a back of perished pipes.
dont worry about the red pipe. Its very tough & you will not break a clip. I did mine on a ramp & it was very fiddly. |

Which way do you push the clip to release? Did you push it up? does it come off totally?
I tried using a flat headed screwdriver to lever it out and one side came off but then I thought I broke something and tried to put it back on and wouldnt clip back on - thats when I took it to the garage and I presume they changed the clip or something? |

I'm in the process of checking every common problem area in my 335d (and have found most of them....egr done, red boost hose next week, turbo actuator replaced in Feb).
Anyway, this came up in my research and I checked mine - dry as a bone. Why would you want to replace this breather? The 'old' design does not have a filter in it that could become blocked, so what are you achieving? I don't mind doing it and the parts are cheap (ish) but I want to know why. Anyone done it and looked inside the old pipes? Cheers |
