I guess I dont see the big problem here. I've used a similar technique for years on all my cars. Only difference is I use less foaming engine degreaser, I am more careful with where and how hard I spray water, and I would never use tire shine. I've seen many mechanics, dealers etc use a similar technique. It works fine.

Pro's do a similar process, just with more specific products and perhaps a fan-spray on a pressure washer. (more air, less water).
