Am I in the wrong here? (Parking ticket)
OK, technically not me but my car was involved. Here is the story:
My sister took my car to go and pick up my other sister. While she is waiting for her to come out she is sitting in the car, ignition on, car idling. She is parked in NO Parking No Stopping area, BUT isn't blocking anyone and the car is on (ready to be moved anytime). As she is sitting there, parking patrol drives up, stops, rolls down his window and tells her to repark since it's no parking zone. By this time a regular spot freed up and my sister happily obliged, moving the car immediately. At this same moment the sister she was picking up came out, got in the car and they left. Here is a good part. Yesterday, 11/30/11 we get a parking ticket in the mail, with the name of the person car is registered to (not the driver). It's not much, $43, but my sister is raging and I am kind of pissed at the parking attendant for doing a dick move. Any comments/suggestions? |

Yeah even if the registered owner wasn't in the car when it happened, the ticket was awarded to the car, not the driver.
I'd suggest paying it. Dick move, yes, but what can you do.... |

I was going to say, typically if you've received a ticket, you were in the wrong.
Not me though all mine were BS tickets and i was innocent!!

Hey, at least you don't have to let your sister borrow your car any more. Clearly she can't be trusted.

chillax, its just a parking ticket. Was it a D*** move of the parking police? Yes.
But technically your sister was in a no parking/no stopping zone and knew it. its only $43 Seems black and white to me: Last edited by MDyDinanM; 12-02-2011 at 06:46 AM.. |

If they started issuing tickets for people that park and double park like this in Taipei it would be a great thing. People here park their cars in the middle of the road playing cards, reading newspapers or watching TV in their cars or taxis. If someone stops for a split second to pick someone up I think it is ok but to literally stop in the middle of the road and turn it into a car parking space is wrong and unsafe especially in cities with small streets (Bigger cities with bigger streets can be an exception).

Maybe there's no dick move. But if I were to identify one, that would be it. Of course, as far as dick moves go, it's not all that severe, but kinda shady none the less. IMO of course. |

The parking cop could have just given a verbal warning, since his sister was in the car, and moved when told to do so. Could have left it at that. but oh well. I'd be annoyed, but Its not something I would get mad about, or make a thread about lol

Edit: Given that a lot of members here are either ex/current military/cops, I understand that it is not a place to question the "law". Also they (Uni's parking department) don't say this, but they have ticket quota for each patrol. Semester is almost over and I guess some people need to get their numbers up. Ever think that when he said to move it and then she delayed because the sister was coming out he took that as a blatant disregard of his request, pissed him off and then he issued the ticket? I can see that happening.

Facts: Stopped in a no stopping zone. Answer: Yes you are wrong! Morale of the story: When people think the rules don't apply to them they are often angered out of stupidity when those who have the job of enforcing the rules do so. Aftermath: The likely reason the parking patrol "did the dick move" issuing the ticket by mail, not giving a warning can possibly be explained with the fact dealing with people who think the rules don't apply to them is often fruitless; it was easier to just his/her job and move on. If the only consequence is a warning she'd do it again since actual punishment for the undesired behavior became uncertain. Since she now knows that stopping in a no stopping zone comes with imediate, certain, negative consequences the undesirable behavior will likely be extinguished. |
