Winter

What does the 335d use to keep the diesel fuel from gelling in the winter? Do i need to do anything for it? I live in Nebraska and it gets to -30 every now and then.

Gas stations are responsible for switching over to winter diesel, which should already have additives in it to prevent gelling in cold temperatures (that's also why you'll notice a slight decrease in fuel economy). If you want to be extra sure, you can use a product like the white winter variety of Diesel Kleen.

Wow, I never would have guessed. I suppose I can cross Nebraska off my 'possibly move to another location in US' list. I'd rather deal with 20's and snow rather than the bitter cold at 0 degrees + wind.

When temperatures plummet, consider supplementing w/Diesel Kleen by Power Service

lol its a really nice state to live in thought. THe summers get hot (around 100) and the winters get cold. It is definitely a state with 4 seasons. We get 28-36" of snow a year. Houses are cheap and the recession didnt really affect the state. I live in Omaha which has about a million people.

This question made me think of another cold weather related diesel question. I remember way back in the day it wasn't uncommon to have to cover a portion of the radiator on trucks to keep the engine at an efficient operating temperature when it was really cold. I'm assuming this is not a issue with the d?

I haven't looked but, I don't recall seeing any type of shutter system in front of the rad. Does it just use a thermostat system?

Diesel is blended for winter. Your fuel filter is heated and the now warmer fuel is recirculated back into your tank.
