US HP vs Euro HP?

I got a print out of the specs for my car. Under power it specifies 172. Is this the equivalent of 230 in the US?

I think 172 is in kilowatts and must be the equivalent to 230hp. Makes sense to me...don't flame, I know I could be wrong.

Learn something new everyday.

I laughed when I saw the kilowatts comparison as if someone was being sarcastic. I never knew horsepower could be converted into watts!

They're both units of power.

Wow!

Who doesn't know that 1 HP is about 750 watts?

(It is also about 33,000 ft lbs/min).

They teach physics here in the US right?
