I have called up few different BMW dealerships and they varied in price for wheel balancing. They called it "Road Forced" wheel balancing and wanted $79-$99.

My question is, is it right that they charge extra for weights?

Decent wheel balancing only (no mounting) costs roughly $15 per wheel/tire.

Road force typically adds between 5-15 dollars per assembly, depending on the shop.

Therefore, $60 should be a good price without RFB, $80 with.

Unless you have some major issues with wheels/tire's being out of balance, the majority of the public is fine without RFB.

weights should not be extra correct? I was at the dealer and I paid $80 for the balancing and they charged close to $20 for weights...

In general I'd say the weights would be included in the cost of the balance. I've never had a tire shop charge me for the weights that they added on.

Anyway though, Road Force balancing is the way to go so if you can find a local shop that uses the same machine, you probably won't get stuck with paying for weights! I believe on Hunter's website you can find more info as to shops local to you that carry their machines.

Yes, that link mentions my dealer as a carrier of their machine. I have no doubt of their quality of work, I was just startled by $80 + weights..

We do also use the Hunter GSP9700 Road force balancing machine here at **********s as well. The Hunter GSP9700 measures radial and lateral tire forces and provides instructions for solving ride and handling problems such as tire pull and wheel vibration that balancers and wheel aligners cannot fix.

The system applies up to 1,400 pounds (635 kg) against the tire. The loaded roller detects non-balance, radial-force-related vibrations caused by eccentricity and constructional variation of the tire and wheel. Unlike non-contact measurement, the roller samples the entire footprint of the tire including the sidewall’s contribution to ride quality.

It is definitely worth the extra change to ensure that your wheels are balanced correctly and that they're true before you put them on your car!

agree with VMR, Road force is the best your going to get, plus keep in mind a little % of that is due to being BMW dealership lol, 60-100 is normal for roadforce

$80 for road force balancing is pretty average I'd say, but I'm a bit surprised that they charged you for the weights.
