When do YOU guys slap on your winter tires?

I'm looking to buy a set and don't know when to throw em' on.
When it starts snowing, or soon (Even though there's no snow yet)?

When temp. starts to dip below 50F on a constant basis, my summers come off.

I heard its bad to use winter tires when theres no snow though.

Why? While you would probably want to avoid extended high speed travel at ambient temps exceeding 95o, I doubt you need to worry about it in Michigan.

They are the stock OEM 194M 17 inch
All seasons.

Usually late october/early november, but since its been warm lately and ground isnt frozen so much and I have brand new Conti DWS on the car, probably not till Turkey day or so for the winters.

3. How did they do last winter?

Most folks who do the changeover opt for Summer Performance tires for the warm months and Winter tires for the cold. I use all-seasons only because I'm tired of the changes and I live in an area which averages only 10" of snow for an entire season.

My winter tires are on now.

I have summer tires, so around this time of year when the temperature dips to around 40F I make the switch, because the summer tires become pretty useless in the wet conditions we get around here in Southern Ontario in November and December.

+1. I notice how badly my summers perform in the evening when temps drop below 40F, they definitely get a bit testy.

My winters were put on Nov 1st. Temps are just below freezing here in Winnipeg Canada in the mornings. No snow as of yet, but its only a matter of time. Just purchased 4 Blizzak WS 60's on a set of 18in Moda EB1's from tirerack. Great price and they look way better than the stock 159 wheels. Tires have performed well so far as there has been some freezing rain in the mornings.

I made the switch this weekend. Every year it's different and dependent on the weather. I usually get most of November out of my Summers, but we've had some very cold nights and even a snow storm already, so I switched them earlier this year.

Living in CT, some time in Nov is what I am being told by others on this forum and tire shops locally. I am keeping an eye on weather.com and see when the first consistant 40 degree or lower will occur, or when snow is on the forcast (damn Halloween snow SUCKED BUTT last week, killed a few thousand dollars worth of landscaping aarrgghh), glad i did not put them on before the last freak timing snowstorm, it is going to get to almost 70 tomorrow. I assume late Nov, Thanksgiving seems to be the norm around here barring anything out of the ordinary.
