335 front bumper paint sucks
I've had my 335 for 6 months now. I took it to the dealership for a free wash and I guess they decided to take a quarter size chip of paint out of my front bumper as a memento. Fortunately, it will be covered under warranty. The service manager said that there has been problems with paint coming off of 335's front bumpers. Anyone else have this issue?

I started a whole thread on this a while ago. My front bumper looks like Ive had it for 3 yrs after only 1 month of ownership. Very embarrassing.

I second the clear bra. I would never get another car without it.

Haven't had it happen yet. Pictures would have been nice.

Anybody know where a guy could find more info on these clear bras you speak of? Different brands, pros and cons, etc? Or even just your own personal experiences.

Are you all not avoiding trucks, semi's and such? I've had the car for 2 weeks now and not a single rock chip on the front and I drive around MD and DC beltways, I-95 and all that. Its all in how and where you drive. Avoid the semi's and any size truck like the plague. Leave plenty of room in front of you or if you're a fast driver get in that left lane and pass them quickly then return to your cruise.
When you're not in a rush take the back roads - use the nav if you have to. Though if you're careless and don't want to think about these sorts of things...get the clearbra and forget about it. I prefer not to have any bra...i've heard too many bad stories about them so I don't want to take the risk. The paint looks great imho... |

I'd avoid driving too close behind other vehicles on the road, especially trucks.

It is not just the bumpers...there is absolutly no paint on these cars...the paint is so thin it is rediculous. And what about the orange peel...It is absolutly insane. Overall I am in love with my car but the pain job certainly leaves something to be desired.

They put flex additive in the bumpers so they can maintain torsional flexibility in accidents/bumps and other stressors. It makes the paint much softer than your aluminum panels.
