What what I have read / heard, CAI do not help much unless you match it with exhaust, fuel timing etc. They do make some noise so if you like that..

Link 1 Link 2 The aftermarket intake utilizes a CF shield to enclose the filter element from the engine compartment. The cold air inlets toward the kidney grille extend downward on the GruppeM to allow for more scooping of cold air while the car is in motion. |

Now I know that warm air rises and cold air falls, but here's my question...
In the dead of summer, when asphault temps are so hig, will getting air from lower down truly get cooler air, or the hot air rising off the asphault? I ask especially because heer in Phx, the road temp will pass 120 degrees F.

Road temp, on a 110 degree day, for black asphalt, is over 170 degrees F. I have measured it with a laser thermometer! That's f-in hot!
Now... temp inside an engine bay, with NO AIRFLOW is very high, several hundred degrees. WITH AIRFLOW... the average aftermarket intake that DOES NOT include a "ram air" set up like say Gruppe-M, will be getting somewhere in the area of 190 Degree F air. so... Yeah, an Outside the Car CAI will get you something... will you feel it? on a cold day, yes. on a hot day... no. Will you run a great risk of hydrolock? yes. Will an air bypass solve the hydro lock problem? yes... BUT. then you loose all the benefit of the CAI. so.... is a CAI worth it? never, in my opinion, but hey, that's just because I don't like to replace $12000 motors (PLUS labor) because I splashed through a puddle.
