Winter tire question: Pirelli Sottozero Series 1 vs II
So I am looking to get Pirelli Sottozero 240 winters for my car. I use OEM 18" stagerred rims for my winter set up. Looking for this brand and model of tire, I cannot find it in non-runflat in both sizes (225/40/18 Front & 255/35/18 Rear)
What I find is Pirelli Sottozero 240 Series II for the front and Pirelli Sottozero 240 for the rear. The difference on the tore is that series II has 2 vertical channels on th tread, where the non-series 2 has only 1. Can anyone tell if this is an issue to run? I dount it but want to make sure since I always hear how it is preferred to run the same tread front and rear. Thanks

Does not appear the series II comes in non-runflat for the rear (from the Pirelli website). Cannot really comment on running the two different treads. However, I did run the series II runflats in the staggered size last winter and the ride was pretty good due to the softer rubber compound.

I run series II on my 335 coupe. Non run flat, but I have 235/40/18 all around. That was recommended by tire rack and they are amazing inthe winter

Thanks for the feedback.
Anyone have any experience mixing RFT with non-RFT? I can find the Series II for the front and rear but rear would have to be RFT.

You might want to contact Gary at tirerack.com. I would probably not mix it up, but have no info to back up my opinion. My recommendation would be to just go with the RFT's. I'm actually looking fwd to switching back to my winter tires in about a month...because the ride is better than the Bridgestone (stock) RFT's.
