WMA FILES
Does anyone know why the iDRIVE CD player only plays MP3 and not WMA files?
When I had an E90 loaner with non iDrive it played mp3 AND wma file. My new E90 with iDrive only seems to play MP3 files.

Thank you.
Maybe most people just use MP3?

Certainly when I bought my E90 (15 months ago now - how time files!) If you had iDrive, the in dash CD drive would only play mp3 (not wma).
I also purchased the 6 disc changer. - That does play mp3 and wma. I have six CDs loaded, mainly crammed with wma files. That's over 60 albums online . I keep the dash slot free for one off cd plays. At that time without iDrive, the in-dash player would play mp3 and wma. I verified this on a loaner. What I have not kept up to date with is whether newer software has enabled wma from the in-dash player for iDrive equipped vehicles. |

I understood that the E90 played MP3's only
But the E92 could play MP3 and WMA Any idea what the max WMA bit rate supported? |

Have no idea what the maximum bit rate is, but I have used 128k for my CDs. This gives reasonable quality (to my ears!), whilst generating smaller files than the equivalent mp3s.

128kb?? - Last time I heard a 128kb recording was back at uni (1999).
All of my collection is WMA lossless (done before I got the car) - As i've ripped my whole CD collection (180Gb). I don't think I can easily downgrade my bit rate to that level again I've also created a duplicate AAC lossless collection (for the iPod). |

All my CDs in the car are WMA 192Kbps, and they play fine, both in the head unit (Non-iDrive) and the 6CD changer.
