the cars already in the wars!
right, had the car for nearly 7 weeks now and already:
• someone battered off my wing mirror, resulting in a scratched/chipped casing • someone impatient bar steward didn't want to wait behind parked cars on the side of the road and forced me to make a choice between having him thrash past ridiculously close to my drivers side or to go up the very slight curb on my left... suffice to say i now have curbing damage on my left front wheel • went past a big truck thing which either went though a load of gravel or had some stones as part of his load but it was like going past the MOTHER of all gritters... the car is now pretty badly stonechipped (we're not talking grit, we're talking big bastard stones!) and one went through the plastic grill breaking some of the diamond formation... not sure if that particular stone also did some damage to the radiator/intercooler/whatever is directly behind. suffice to say, its heartbreaking with a new car oh yeah... also hit a fox but didn't do any damage to the car... feel sorry for the fox tho... |

In the first few months mine got: 1. Big stone chip in the windscreen 2. Dented door (x2) 3. 1 minor alloy ding (suprised this is all, but I've ben very careful) 4. Scratch on rear wing - don't know how or when it happened. 5. 1 no paint ding on drivers door - some idiot in a car park The best bet for the scratchs / paint chips is chipsaway. I'm just going to live with the alloy wheel scratch as it's really small. |

I'm not looking forward to this. First few dings I'll probably get repaired but after that it puts me off even washing it, which I know sounds silly.

Gents, I know how it feels. I've had mine only a few months, and already had it at the bodyshop twice, and Chipsaway out once. It is so annoying when you are driving along and hear that shotgun noise from some stones.

Man that sucks, and I know. Had my bumper all scratched up and gouged after only 2 weeks. Its heartbreaking.
The dealer price to put it back to a perfect finish was £270. Independants quoted around £180 for the same job, but since it wasnt me paying, I took it to BMW.

And if you don't fancy doing it yourselves I recommend Pristine Alloys in Milton Keynes - they did a superb job on one of mine. Think it works out at 75-100 per wheel depending on what they have to do.

Got a couple of healthy stone chips on the bonnet allready. Downside of the mrs. commuting on a dual carriageway every day I suppose.
Regards Chris

Think mine was about a week as it was fairly bad and I think in 2 or 3 pieces or something. They don't do a 'chips away' on it... Completely strip down and fix then repaint, laquer... Looks like a new wheel.

Reading this post gives me horrible feelings in my stomach as I wait on my new car. I have to admit, when you get you first scratch/chip on a new car it is really annoying, but then you eventually get over it and just begin to accept that it is not new anymore!!!
Anyway ZiM, best of luck getting the bits and pieces sorted. In another few months you will probably not worry at all about some small defects and just go on enjoying the driving pleasures.
