Track Day Meet
I'd still love to do some sort of trackday meet.
I was just browsing a lotus exige forum (I have a exige fixation right now) and saw that they had organised a track day at Teeside Autodrome: http://www.teessideautodrome.co.uk/track_days.php Weekday hire of the circuit is around £1000 plus a bit extra for ambulance and marshalls. They allow 12 vehicles on the track at once, so if we could organise it 12 people could have a whole day with the track to themselves. Presumably there are other circuits out there which offer a similar service. Would any of the 'hardcore' members be up for something like this? Viv - do you know anything about the circuit since it's round your way? |

Sounds pretty cool but will be more difficult to organise as people will need to commit to dates and put a hand in their pockets. Some of the hardcore members will be up for it though.... so I'm in!
Not too keen on driving 5 hours to get their though!! |

I've never actually been there, but I could get some more info about it if there's interest in it. I'll ask my brother- he'll have some idea about it...I saw him driving infront of me on that road today in his latest toy- a black Porsche Carrera S- dentists....don't you just love them?! Viv

Cheers guys ... I think it may be hard to organise though ... as Beauforty says it requires a definite commitment and money laid out.
Alternative would be something like this: http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/ou...ProductID=3312 £99 for an afternoons novice track session at Snetterton, plus the option hire helmets for £10 and get instruction for £25 |

Hiya, up for track days, for sure. Would be happy with paying up to £150 for a marshalled, open pit lane day. Some of the smaller circuits are that price even in summer, e.g. I'm doing Llandow in July for £105. Never been to Snet so that could be good.

Cool - I went to Llandow a few years ago. Simple circuit, but lot's of fun - very informal.

Track day meets are from my expereince almost impossible to organize for your own group, unless you book the entire track as a private event. We're talking ££££. The problem is they get booked up so quickly especially when the weather is good, at some of the more popular tracks. You need to commit very early and pay up in full. Also, the weekend sessions will be snapped up way ahead so you're mostly left with the weekday track sessions. Not ideal for a meet.
The best thing to do is to join one of the open pit lane days and ask as many of your mates who are interested to sign up. And then you just take it from there. One of my favourite UK tracks is Bedford Autodrome. Fantastic selection of corners and high speed runs. Plenty of run off too. The days when I had 'petrol' in my veins .... |

Hi Simon, I would be on for that if it is in a weekend I have free and not a billion miles from Surrey (not too many caveats!). PM me if you want commitments as not had much time to keep eye on e90 forum recently.

I like the sound of Bedford Autodrome because: 1. It's quite a central location 2. I have visited before and the facilities / staff are great 3. You can book tuition - which might be good - and hire helmets. 4. There is loads of run off and very little to hit (very important given my abilities). There is a full day session at Bedford on the 5th May 07 and a 'autocar' sponsored novice day on Monday 7th May 07 (Bank Holiday) They are each £199 - and the Monday session can be reduced to morning or afternoon for £115 Anyone up for it? |

Monday 7/5 I may come along for passenger rides but a bit skint at short notice as I need to buy 4 Toyo 888 tyres before my next track day.

I want to do this .. but I just started getting cold feet about insurance.
How much would it cost for some basic cover ? I don't mind a large excess (I can gamble on £ 2-3K or so) but I want cover in case of a catastrophy. I probably owe about £27K on the 330i so if it was KO'd (which I know won't happen) it would be quite upsetting. |

My employer insures the car, so I think I will just check to see if I am covered (doubt it) and see if they will cover it for a one off fee. |

you're probably looking at a few hundred quid for a day's insurance. I used to pay an £80 premium for 4k cover with £750 excess. So try and multiply it up from there. Or give these guys a call.
If you can get your work to cover you I'd be very surprised. |
