So having had my car repaired in early February after some animal drove down the side of it and failed to leave details, another trip to the bodyshop was needed today. A friend of my father's admired my newly washed and waxed car, sat in it and made all the right noises...then proceeded to reverse into it in his Peugeot estate, hitting the front with his tow bar and causing over £800 of damage. :mad:

The look on the bodyshop manager's face when I arrived for an estimate was like, hey mate, can't you keep your car in one piece?! You were only here a few weeks ago

Just hoping that bad things don't actually come in threes...

funny when you mentioned animal, I thought you literally mean an animal like a big goofy buffalo or a deer. But now I know what you mean, very clever use of word and got me laughing once I figure out what you mean.

Hope your luck changed and you don't run into anymore animals. Maybe you were mean to animals in your previous life so now they are after you.

dxb335d, the repair last time was superb, but I don't have any pics of before and after.

For some reason my dad's friend wants to pay for the repair himself and freaked out when I told him how much! He seemed to think that the dint could just be knocked out and sprayed over. Anyway, he's trying to get me to use a repair shop of his choice, 20 miles from where I live, cos he thinks it will be cheaper. I'm not prepared to do this as I want the job done properly at a place that I trust, (which is an authorised BMW repair centre) and it's only around the corner from where I work. Luckily my dad's supportive of this.

(And I am kind to animals, but not the human variety that damage my shiny coupe!)

Has he got valid insurance? Did you report incident to the police?

Only get it done at an approved BMW centre.

It's good of him to offer to pay for it, but it's not like the old days. A quick go with a hammer and some paint from Halfords isn't going to fix it.

BMW body shops don't get out of bed for less than £500

You have to get it done at the dealer for your own safety, so if he isn't prepared to stump up the readies then it's got to be an insurance claim.

Unless they outsource their work to a local bodyshop as mine does, and you call the bodyshop direct and it is 280 quid for your bonnet to be resprayed.

The damage was to the driver's side. Basically some muppet drove their vehicle down the side of mine in a supermarket and scraped and dinted the rear panel, door and front panel. Looking at the height it was most probably a 4X4 bumper. Extensive respray and repair to the door cost over £950 and I had to stump up the excess because they didn't have the courtesy to leave their details. Probably didn't even feel it!

The guy who reversed into me has known my father since they were boys, over 75 years ago! So I didn't inform the police. I would hope that he can be trusted to do the right thing, or I'll have to use my insurance company. I'm ringing him tonight to insist on the approved centre. The place is part of the JCT 600 group and is a specialist approved BMW and Porsche repair centre.

Well the official estimate came through. £1125 for a new bumper and spray job. He's decided to go through his insurance and take the hit on his excess rather than pay cash and it's going into the bodyshop of my choice. Can't wait to have it looking like new again.

As an aside, I was amazed how little I felt inside the cabin. He hit it with considerable force and with a tow bar, but the bumper did its job and absorbed the impact, which is reassuring. Rather than a dint it's created a weird cone shape. I'll try to post a pic.
