Any luck with dealers coding for you?

I'm located in Birmingham, Alabama and I'm trying to get a few features enabled on my car without dropping $100 on the usb cable...has anyone had success getting a BMW dealer to code the car for you? My Dad went today and the mechanics seemed to think it was alright but needed to talk to the supervisor who was not in.

I highly doubt the dealer will code your car to enable features that your car didn't come with. They probably figure that if a certain feature didn't come enabled (on the car) from the factory, that it must have been for a good reason. But its an interesting question you have posed. I wonder what others experiences have been...

+1, dealerships usually only have access to one tool, ISIS. If ISIS doesn't allow them to do it, they can't do it. ISIS only allows the dealer to perform the coding that BMW officially authorizes.

if the dealer did, it would cost you more than that $100 cable

I'm still confused why everyone is so cheap and wants or thinks they deserve a handout. You drive an expensive luxary car yet everyone complains about $100 bucks to either buy cable and learn how to do it or just pay someone. I think it's amusing how many times people come to all these different forums and ask the same 2 questions. 1. Can I buy this cheap cable and will it work 2. Looking for free coders, don't want to pay $100, anyone in my area.
BMW will tell you some of these things are impossible and stop being cheap. BMW charges about $125 an hour and do think BMW is going to enable DVD in motion for you? COME ON!!!!

The whole point of this forum is to pool information and create a community among members. A lot of us drive nice cars but I know plenty of people that do well financially that are frugal, not to mention like to do things themselves. Personally I used to be a Benz tech and I've been working on cars for the past 15 years as a hobby and a professional and I still like to find a good deal and do things myself.

also, Im a college student... of course i dont want to pay 100 dollars to some guy if i dont have to. Odds are though, if someone can help me with coding my car, I will most like be able to repay them with parts, referrals, or help should their car be in dire straits and an extra pair of hands are necessary. Its called, as Blacktop3 said it, a community
