Can someone explain this?
My car went in today for it's yearly oil change and a software update to correct a bad shaking problem I been having when it starts up. The question I have is they gave a 2011 328xi loaner with just over 2300 klms on it, which to me is quite new, but whats with the crap building up on the tailpipe already!!
I mean this is a brand new car, can they not tune them to run cleaner. For the recorded my car is bad for this as well. I can just hope that after the software update is done this problem is gone. I can only hope.

Completely normal.
Guess the dealer doesn't care, so they don't keep their loaner pipes clean.

I had one of the tips on my 335 replaced when they were fixing the exhaust damper thing. I went ahead and scrubbed the other side clean so new and old would match. Fucking thing was dirty again in a week.
I am convincedvthat if you don't regularly open up your 335 to burn some of the shit out the engine, you get problems. Gotta keep em clean w some hard but loving driving (warm up, be smooth, but don't be scared of high rpms) |

Matrix76, wow you are really worked up over dirty tail pipes, I essentially think of it as brake dust on my rims...you just gotta clean it (if I was bothered by it...)

That's exactly why! These are are meant to have 91 octane but people don't care to spend the extra on a loaner car and will use the cheap gas, which has more ethanol and in turn produces more carbon.

Come on..seriously>>>,,i have used 93 octane from day 1..n if i left my car unwashed and drove around for a week or two my tailpipes looked EXACTLY like this..
an internal combustion gas engine is only about 55-65% efficient..this is exactly why u will get soot..has nothing to do w which grade of gas u use. |

Lemon laws apply to dirty pipes? You'd think at these prices they could coat the interior of the pipes with Teflon so that crap don't ooze!
Jeeze, maybe people are right and BMW owners are a bit over the top. |
