325 I E90 ,warning light

My sons e90 has gone in to limp mode and suspect another coil pack has gone ,

It has had four replaced since new in OCT 07 three were covered by warranty the last cyl 3 was paid for .I bought 3 brand new coil packs on here a few months ago.The plan is to replace 4,5,6 and hope its one off them, if it doesn't cure it I will put two i removed in 1,2 failing that 3 ,

Will the warning light go out or does it have to go to the dealers to have it cancelled .

I am seriously considering using a indy to replace the pack /s .

My thoughts are the CP are a on going problem and if BMW had replaced them all from the start he wouldn't be having the issues now ,this will be the 5 time it has gone in for CP.

Dealer visit I'm afraid.

A good indy could do the work and cancel out the warning lights.

Not far from you I believe:

Surely you can do a simple ECU reset and not go to a dealer?

He joined the AA last night and called them to his place off work the guy asked what are the symptons , He explained seams like a coil pack the guy plugged his PC in and sure enough coil pack failure on Cyl 1.

Explained he carried 3 coil pack in the boot , The guy offered to fit it and happy days all sorted ,Warning light has gone out bloody wonderful AA £28.50 for 12 months cover .He bought 3 coil packs on here for £60 at christmas ,so still has two spare, the last visit to the dealer was £180 .

The error codes are still stored in the ECU though.... did the roadside guy reset the codes/shadow codes?

NO ! he didnt and we are still having issues, The AA came out again again today and said you could have mutiple coil pack failures. Fing great

On the plus side I spoke to my local bmw dealer and had a lengthy talk about coil packs etc and was it best practice to keep changing the odd one but VAG dealer said they always replace in sets..

What the service guy has said is drop the car off and they will push BMW for a complete set on good will. I wont hold my breath ,

I will keep you updated
