320d msport nightmare!
Hi all
first post here, will post something in the general area soon however, just wanted to ask advice. Ive had my 07 320d e90 msport for 3 months now and have no end of problems. its done 48k The week after I picked it up the central locking stopped working in the drivers door - simple fix under warranty then a couple of weeks later, the air con compressor packed in, the garage noticed that the air con system had 2x the recommended amount of gas, had to bleed and replace the air con compressor - replaced under rac platinum warranty few more weeks later, i noticed a judder through the clutch pedal, just at the top of the range of motion. yep, you guessed it - Dual mass flywheel had started to go. BAck in the garage again, luckily the RAC agreed to pay for a new DMF, but I had to put a new clutch in. Not bad i guess. but now, after a 6 hour drive from Manchester to Fleet my hands started to go numb on the way home. Didnt think too much of it and put it down to too much time on the road in one day. But then, they started to go numb again after a relatively short 10 mile drive. Its weird, its as if i can feel a very low frequency vibration through the steering wheel and gear stick when the engine is on and not moving. The wife cant notice it, but she doesnt like driving the car anyway. Any ideas, its driving me mad. The car is out of warranty now, although the garage still cover the dmf and clutch and work for 12 months. Its only happened since the new DMF and clutch went in. The car isnt making any irregular tapping or noises from the engine - just this dam vibration. The car rolls really smoothly. Any ideas, I feel like i have rsi in my hands!!!!!! |

I dont think I've ever driven a BMW diesel that didnt have a low frequency thrum through the gearstick or steering wheel at idle. Certainly all the 320d's have had it.

Was the work done by a local garage or approved BMW workshop?
I would think the DMF and clutch would only fit one way. It may be something to do with a loose gearbox mount or a bolt that worked itself loose. Local garages can sometimes simply refit an old bolt, where in actual fact it should be replaced as they can be stretch bolts. |

the guys that did it are german car specialists, perhaps self proclaimed :-)
they have said to take it in tomorrow to have a look. They have been remarkably helpful with all the issues i've had. is there such a thing as a friday afternoon car....right now im beginning to think this is one! I will ask them to check this tomorrow cheers |
