F30 Steering

Does anyone know if the F30 will utilize the same electric steering as the F10? I drove my Dad's 535i xDrive for the first time last weekend and was unamused. One of my favorite aspects of my E90 is the tight steering and how connected you feel to the road. I really hope they don't lose that in the next 3...

I'd guess it probable. Electric steering like electric water pumps free up gains in mpgs.

The Xdrive F10 uses normal hydrolic power steering instead of the RWD EPS, so that is really interesting if you weren't amused...But the F30 RWD definately goes EPS!!!

Relax,

the E9x LCI already uses EPS.
I wouldn't be too concerned about the steering, as the 3er and 5er are heading for different markets and customers.
The steering feel has always been less connected on the bigger BMWs. I don't think this will change.

I have to admit though, I'm not a fan of EPS in general, either.
I prefered the servo steering on my pre LCI E91.

Are you positive on that? Source? I know the first BMW with EPS is the E84 (first Z4 series)...didn't knew about E9x LCI series.

US-spec E9x do not utilize EPS. It is only part of the European "Efficient Dynamics" program for the E9x.

I share the same concerns. It's almost certain F30 will bring EPS globally, if only for the very slight increase in MPG. Let's hope they get it right in the 3 Series.

Did the F10 have active steering as an option? I find that reduces feel a lot.

the steering feel in a 3-Series BMW is iconic so I hope it doesn't change. I've owned an E90 for about 4years and I'm still impressed how firm and crisp the steering is after driving my sister's 06 Accord lol
