Occasional problem playing music from HDD

Very occasionally (happened twice) I've had an issue where music will not play from the hard drive. You can scroll through the tracks, artists etc. using the iDrive knob or the thumbwheel on the steering wheel and you can select different tracks but it simply won't play - the counter sits there on 00:00.

Only way I've found to cure is to switch off ignition and back on.

Any ideas?

If I select a track immediately after starting the car, it freezes up and I have to go out of the HDD section and back in. I think it's because the data takes a few seconds to upload upon first start up. Although it will play the track I was listening to when I switched the ignition off, if i leave it to do it's own thing.

Mine kind of does that insofar as it won't search for the first 20 seconds while it gets out of bed but this is different.

Only got about 1200 tracks loaded and plenty of spare HDD capacity.

Not used the HDD, I just play straight off a 64GB USB stick in the armrest

The upload to the car HDD seems to be the worlds slowest connection, I gave up.

But even off the USB stick it still takes 20 - 30 secs to start up, so I'm kind of glad the HDD still does that too.

I started off using the USB in the armrest but transferring to the HDD seemed that right thing to do, as it was there

Starts off slow but speeds up....

Perhaps I'll go back to playing from the USB stick.

Not had that but once in a while it jumps to the next track. Can't repeat it but it is always within a few seconds of the start of the track.

My 32gb takes about 5 or more minutes to index the tracks before I can select album or artist, although I can make a basic selection from a folder much quicker. Which were you referring to?
