E90 320d road noise
Just purchased a 320d 2007.
Very dissapointed with the ride and road noise. The tyres are continental run flats on standard alloys. Is their anything i can do to reduce the road noise? |

Non run flats should make a noticable difference to the ride. Falken 452's are well regarded. If you've got a bit more cash then Michelin PS3's are good.
Car will also be quieter too. |

Do you think this is true what halfords say? No, you should not put non-Run Flat tyres on a car set up for Run Flat tyres! There are two main reasons for this. Because Run Flat tyres are very hard due to the reinforced sidewall, the suspension on the car is set much softer so the ride is normal for occupants. If a normal tyre is fitted then the ride will feel very soft, the handling will be adversely affected and could present serious safety concerns. As the car will not have a spare or anyway to deal with a flat tyre, if non-Run Flat tyres are fitted, the car will be stranded if a puncture does occur. |

If you stick with RFT's then Bridgestones are generally quieter.

Thinks ill do away with the run flats. The next problem is a spare. Is their a good sealer or something i could carry instead of using boot room with a spare. |

Are we talking 90" wheels here?
With 30 profile rears? If so they dont offer much suspension travel over and above that given by the cars suspension. So the difference from changing them out to conventional rubber won't alter handling much. It's not an F1 car. This has been discussed to death, try a search of the boards. Grab a Continental Rescue kit (pump and tyre sealer) from ebay or a scrapyard. Ford galaxy, Renault meganes and many other cars have them... Remember though - BMW offer all buyers of cars with runflats the option of conventional tyres (RFT delete) and they don't 'mod' the suspension. QED? So don't believe the bollocks some 'tyre monkeys' come out with. Most just regurgitate the sales spiel / safety indoctination they get blindly, and think they are 'talented' for having remembered more than what curry they had on Saturday night. Halfords lol. As thick as Kwik Shit, but with teenage managers.

All i'm bothered about is reducing road noise on motorway journeys. Are you saying swapping the run flats wont help???? If i do swap them will i have any symbols to do with tyres popping up on the computer? |

Caution is needed here, it might not be tyre noise and each car can have different acoustics tyre to tyre.
Personally, the OEM Bridgestones were the quietest tyre I've tried so far. Terrible ride though! |

decided to give it a try swapping tyres. It seems a common opinion that it should improve it at least a little, or maybe E90's are just a long way short of the quality of the e60 I have just sold. |

Y rated tyres ride better on M-Sports (no idea why). W rated seem too bouncy and fidgety.

just to let anyone know who is interested,i have done away with the runflats and fitted Goodyear excellence.
The improvement is massive with the only negative been that the steering is a little stiffer. Thanks for some good advice. |

Hi
I am due for tyre replacement very soon and am looking at Falken 452's. Elite are quoting me £470 fully fitted, is this a good price or is there any better options for this kind of money. Also told the insurance company about changing from run flats and they said no problem. Thanks |

My 320D M-Sport runs on OEM runflat Bridgestones. I find road noise just depends on the motorway road surface. On some it is supremely quite, it really is, on others it is'nt.
I do think possibly the road noise on an M-Sport is slightly greater than the SE due to the wider tyres. |
