Value of my e90 increased!
I bought my e90 about 3 weeks ago so obviously i paid pretty close attention to the value of the car stated by multiple sources including KBB.
Well the value of my car today according to KBB is definitely $1200 more than it was just 3 weeks ago when i purchased the vehicle. The value of used cars is increasing due to the cash for clunkers program (sigh) and inflation (sighhhhhhh). Yay Last edited by incantana; 05-18-2011 at 01:56 PM.. |

and you have a 330i which makes it retain value longer since that car is somewhat rare, it was only produced for one year

I dont know how much of an impact cash for clunkers had on the used car market but from an economic standpoint it MUST have had an impact of some kind.
Here is why: Cash for clunkers eliminated a portion of the used cars in the market effectively reducing supply. The poor economy has increased the demand for used cars. Supply and demand determine price. Now, it could be proposed that someone in the market for an e90 would not be affected by the elimination of cars of lesser value, however, such an assumption would be incorrect. If someone would have bought a car that was worth 1000 but the supply has decreased, that car will now be worth a little more...maybe 1200. The person who was wanting to buy what use to be a 1200 car will now have to spend 1500 to get the same vehicle....this pattern will work its way all the way through the range of car values. Its a sliding scale. Sorry if that was a poor explanation but in some manner cash for clunkers eliminated supply thus increasing price. Simple economics. |

I agree. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I just picked up my wagon for well under KBB because it was on the market so long and every other one was priced low also.

I'm aware of this concept however I paid less than KBB TRADE-IN value for the car I purchased ($2500 off their asking price). I guess they also overlooked the accident I had with the 335 because they didn't mention it.

sounds really weird..... cant imagine why dealer would take a loss. e90 w/54k for $26k is alot even for private party. I just sold my CPO e92 w/47k miles (fully loaded) for 25,850....many dealers wanted to give me 20-22k for it. One gave me a bit less then 26k, but had to pay asking price on purchase
