Falkens 452 - correct or oversize?

Seen a few post saying the 452's should be one size up....not sure i am comfortable with this especially from a insurance poisnt of view.

Hs anybody fitted normal size e.g, 255/35/18?

Cheers

I had normal fitment on mine mate (the E90 330d); no worries.

I think it's just on 19" - simply that the normal fitment is 255/30/19 but Falken don't make that size and hence you have to use 265/30/19. No problem in doing that - the dimension change is a couple of %.

When I bought mine about a year ago, you couldn't get 225 fronts in 19", so I went 235.

I think they now offer 225/19's

You can run one size up on Falkens no bother especially as there is very little tyre protection and the side walls will look stretched therefore if you use OE sizes.

235/35 and 265/30 is a fair substitute for 225/40 and 255/35 etc

E92's had 255/30/19's on the rears, didn't they?

I noticed this when I had Falkens fitted. They leave rims very exposed!

Stretched!! That does not sound good.

I am pretty sure fitting oversized tryes required you to inform insurance company...just don't want to given them a reason to bump up premium or decline a claim

Damn, tryes place says I need to wait for 452 (next wed) and with a slow puncture that's a bit of a pain.

Anybody got views on the ZE912?

Mate, the 452s do have tyre protection on them (think Mega needs to learn how to drive/park ), the 912s don't. The 452s are built more for a 'sporty' drive whereas the 912s more for comfort (motorways). Think you're best getting the 452s mate.

This was certainly my understanding when I got mine 2 years ago.

Try Arthur on 0161 928 7024 (he runs ATS in Altrincham), tell him I sent you, he'll look after you for price and, more importantly, will look after you, your alloys and your tyres.

Why not try Blackcircles or some online seller, they can arrange fitting locally and you may save a decent amount.

Balls!

I paid £575 just a few weeks ago from Event!

EDIT: Ah you're on 18s. Makes sense.

Roger,

The rim protection on the 452s is non-existent mate! Let me get a pic and show you...

Admittedly there are bigger protectors around but there's some protection (from what I recall). Happy to be proved otherwise though.

That pic above is a 235 section tyre on a 225 wheel. Nothing to save you there at all!

The OEM Bridgestones had a nice bit of protection (even that could have been meatier though).

I think Mega is right (see, I don't disagree with everything you say), I don't get how a 225 section tyre would go onto those wheels without looking "stretched". It just wouldn't look right because even the 235 looks a little narrow on it. Same goes for the 265 tyre on the 255 wheel on the back.

It's kinda weird if you ask me because (not that you can tell from that picture) the edge of the rim is actually proud of the rubber.
