Best fuel other than v-power?

I did a search but couldn't find much?

V-Power seems to be rated as the best fuel, but sadly for me there is no shell garage near my home or work

The options I have are:

BP Ultimate
Tesco 99

What's the best out of those two? There seem to be a few negative comments about both.

I could, of course, move house to be near a shell garage - but that might be excessive.

Thanks

Tesco momentum is rated at 99 RON and BP Ultimate is either 97 or 98RON so I would go for the Tesco one. On a stock 335i you probably won't notice much of a difference but if it's remapped then it is necessary for it to run properly.

I was thinking about swapping to an M3 - I gather fuel can make more of a difference in that compared to the 335i

higher octane fuels provide greater performance increases in forced induction engines than naturaly aspirated ones.

I'd tend to go the other way and say that fuel makes more of a difference in a turbocharged car like a 335i. Higher octane fuel means the fuel is less resistant to knock and allows us to run more boost (relatively) safely. Never had a M3 so don't know if it requires high octane fuel or the time, although I assume thats the case.

I used to run a petrol car that required a minimum of 97ron and i always use Shell fuel, it was Optimax back then i believe.

However, on a handful of occasions the ECU switched its fuel mapping to a lower power mode on anything below 97 ron. This happened on optimax but never on the tesco 99 stuff. It was a couple of pence cheaper too.

Of the petrol cars I have had over the last 10 years all have been run on Super Unleaded of one sort or another .....

BP Ultimate for me made no difference on anything that I could feel. I believe it is as much for extra cleaning as it is for a bit more power ... and is rated at 97RON.

Tesco 99 always seemed initially more pokey in my remapped Scooby WRX PPP ... but rough with it. Same with my remapped Golf GTi Edition 30 .... Shell V Power was always smooth but never has the same oomph

On normally aspirated cars I have never noticed anything other than a smoother power delivery and maybe 20mpg extra on a tank.

Normal turbos seemed to run better but you can definitely notice it more on a remapped car ... more bite .... all IMO of course

V-Power, then Tesco 99, BP Ultimate not worth it.

Similar here.
Scooby was smooth as silk on Shell, rough as a badger on BP Ulti mat.
This 335i with a tune is exactly the same.

Has to be 'something in it'.

My E92 M3 was much better on VPower than BP Ultimate, I really try to avoid BP if I can.

On the Evolve dyno, an E92 M3 will make c395 bhp on 95RON and c425bhp on VPower.

I was sure I'd seen this somewhere on here, 25+ bhp from changing fuel

Sounds like there is not a lot of love on here for BP, so it looks like tesco is the way forward in the absence of shell

Interesting, I was about to say exactly the same, and mine was an otherwise standard 2.8T V6. Noticeably sharper with Tesco 99, noticeably smoother with V Power.

Its the opposite, a higher octane fuel is more resistant to knock or det.

And you can only use it if you tune for it ie more boost or timing otherwise its a total waste of money.

Oops you're right, that's what I meant

I use it entirely for that second reason as I'm running 13.5ish psi at the moment, which probably wouldn't be considered safe on regular fuel.
