It shows how callous they were back then about the human cost. It was taken as a given that the sport was inherently dangerous and anyone doing it was prepared to die.

I know Mario Andretti (see my avatar standing next to him and his yellow Diablo a few years ago) and he and his wife both said that you didn't get too close to other drivers because you never knew what was going to happen. Case in point, his teammate was killed in 1978 when Mario won the F1 Championship.

Great video, never realized just how dangerous the sport was. That was an eye opener and makes me appreciate the sport today that much more. Thanks for sharing with us.

Great video. Never knew the sport was so dangerous in the past. I can't believe that it took the drivers standing up for themselves to make things happen.

I actually love the atmosphere back then. where all the drivers are like a family, and they know each other very well. They travel together, stay in the same hotel, they treat each other like a family.

Not like now with too much politics and media frenzy...the relationship between drivers are different now.
