Gas consumption on 335is
What are you getting?
I drove M3 and 335is today. Both stop and go traffic and to my surprise M3 was 15l/100km and 335is 14l/100km. M3 was 6spd and 335is DCT. I was not driving like a maniac. I wondering what are you getting in 335is combined.

With city commuting (Melbourne) I get about 13L/100 with an average speed of 28 km/h and now I live in the country I'm averaging 9.5 with average speed of 60km/h per tank (2008 e92 auto)

i get 20-25mpg depending if i'm on city streets or road trips. My milage has been as high as 28mpg on a tank when I drive only high way at 75mph and as low as 16 when the car was new.

Well mine is dropping BUT all city driving.
I skipped a highway trip this week and I dropped from 14.7-15.7 down to 13.9 BUT....average speed of 23MPH and I've been heavy on the gas peddle. I've been basically doing stop light to stop light sprints and round-trips of maybe 2-20 miles city. I have only 700 miles on mine though.
On the highway I would get 16-20MPG based on accident avoidance DC area defensive driving and keeping up with the zip and zoom highway speeds where everyone is trying to get nowhere fast. If I drive like grandpa like some of you in "D" mode I would get 17-19MPG city. I'm usually in lower gears and sprinting ahead of traffic where I safely can. I need to looking more in my rear view for the red and blue though. CRAZY PART: The 335is gets the same gas mileage as my old E46 325ci that I used to flog a lot. So for 40% more HP and add the assumption that both HP and Torque are under-rated. 325ci: 184 HP @ 6000 rpm; 175 ft lb @ 3500 rpm 335is: 320 HP @ 5900 rpm; 332 ft lb @ 1,500 rpm ( 370 with overboost function) Sounds like you had more fun in the 335is than the M3? A 6spd would implicitly have better gas mileage unless you used "D" mode on the DCT which would have resulted in better mileage than the M3. I posted before on the government fuel economy rating. The M3 certainly uses more gas than a 335is. Last edited by KevinJ; 04-22-2011 at 08:49 PM.. |

Here's a repost of the Govt fuel economy ratings
2011 335is DCT
Annual Fuel Cost* $3180 Prem Gas, 19 Combined, 17 City, 24 highway 2010 335i Auto Annual Fuel Cost* $3023 Prem Gas, 20 Combined, 17 City, 26 highway 2011 335i Auto (N55 engine versus N54 on 335is) Annual Fuel Cost* $2750 Prem Gas, 22 Combined, 19 City, 28 highway 2011 M3 Auto and 6sp Annual Fuel Cost $3778 Prem Gas, 16 Combined, 14 city, 20 Highway My old 325: 2002 325ci Auto Annual Fuel Cost $3023 Prem Gas, 20 Combined, 17 City, 25 Highway Annual Fuel Costs are based on 45% highway driving, 55% city driving, and 15000 annual miles. Assumed Fuel Prices: Premium: 4.03 Based on this it confirms my new 335is is about the same fuel economy as my old car. The 335is is sipping fuel to the tune of $1.63 a day over an M3. Basically the 335is I get a free coffee a day for the life of the vehicle. Note that how they calculate standards between 2002 and 2011 I believe changed and the new cars had their economy numbers reduced. Last edited by KevinJ; 04-22-2011 at 09:09 PM.. |

Quote:
I got 14.9l/100km in total traffic. I expected 335is 10.5l city in normal driving but not 14l I got. I am in the process of deciding between 2 cars. Funny but m3 was a lot more comfortable in comfort mode than 335is. IS was on 19" and fun flats. M3 got regular tires and higher tire sidewalls (30 vs 40) If I end up with 335is the fun flats has to go - they are horrible on 19".

I really did not expect that much. This is m3 territory. Is this pushing the car or normal city driving.

I agree. Test drove couple of M3's as well and 335is does feel firmer, especially on 19's and comparing with M3 in comfort mode.
I got 18's on mine with Bridgestones RFT and actually pretty happy with firmness. But when the thread is down I am picking up PS2's or equivalent. This car could use as much traction as possible Quote:
