Dms - Evolve

This is not a who is better thread at all , just wandering what differences are between them. Its just DMS are about 2 miles from me and evolve are a long way. The box thing that evolve do does temp me though, and also they quaote at getting more bhp/ftlb than DMS ............ what would you do?

Thanks.

Again this is not " who is better than who" thread as both have very good reviews.

Josh, have you asked about costs from DMS and Evolve?

Once you have, I'll bet you'll be driving to Luton

I live near Southampton, i.e. close to DMS. For my 335i they quoted £900 ish, whereas Evolve were £500. OK I had to drive to Luton but that isn't £400 of fuel, even at today's prices!

I believe Evolve have a dealer in Guildford - have a look at their website.

I'm sure DMS are very good, but Evolve were charming people with an excellent product.

Mike.

Ok all taken on board, thanks. Spoke to DMS today and there maps are all bespoke to the car not generic , i guess this is why they are a bit more .Will more than likely be going there, as they are close and can do a deal on the price. Will let you know how i get on.

GIAC flash very good
although I have had evolve switch for 335d which i loved
had a golf tdi tuning box for dms when they used to be in fleet (10yrs +)and was also suitably impressed
ray west tuned my old a4 3.0 but it had a big knock from the gearbox (which he said was normal!) so i wouldnt recommend him from personal exp

Anybody know how close Evolve are to realising there software for the N55?
I have heard Rob @ DMS is very professional and their products seem very good. They also have software available for the N55 and I know someone who has had theirs done already (326bhp / 300lb/ft stock to 372bhp / 365lb/ft straight after map).
Thing is, they are a gazillion miles from me, cost a stupid amount of money and if I have any issues I will have to travel all the way back down south, as the map isn't switchable..
I was thinking of maybe opting for a Juicebox intially and running that until other tuners have more software available to choose from. Would be mint if any of them manage to crack the ECU through the OBD and release a switchable hand held devise (like Cobb in the States with the N54), but only time will tell with that..

Problem is though, the N55 is an ECU out job and takes best part of the day / afternoon to do apparently. Something i'm not sure they will be able to accomodate on your driveway.. But could be wrong..

Not the way to tune any ECU, especially when you are dealing with later ECU's.

They require proper set up to ensure the best performance and power delivery.

We have been offering our software on the N55 since January now, its well tested and yet again we are the first to release it after track and dyno testing.

We are looking at offering a better price for members now that we have done a good few

Don't quote me on that mate, I just know that it's not a OBD flash job and know it takes a fair few hours.. Something I thought was the same for you guys?

Have you got any dyno charts of your results?

Hi

No, you are 100% correct.

The ECU used in the N55 is far too complicated for OBD tuning and must be bench flashed.

I actually got the month wrong before...hadn't realised we have been tuning these since last year!

There is at least 1/2 days labour involved in tuning these properly, during which we can supply a courtesy car free of charge.

I was supposed to pull a dyno graph off the comp a while back..must get onto this..

Ya have heard of regal ( only bad things though) and giac . But the big difference from all these is that DMS map YOUR car as its on the rollers, where as other places have a map for all 330d cars and use the same one........ correct me if i am wrong though. From experience its far better off getting a proper remap rather than a flash. I had a seat ibiza cupra r a long time ago and got a revo remap, which was good . Then went up to jabbasport for a proper one and it was so much smoother. West tuning do bespoke maps as well , but DMS are only 2 miles away.

The first time mine was re-mapped the ECU was taken out. It was no biggie, 2 hours in total including a test drive.

from memory ray (west tuning) and rob (DMS) used to be in business together (ray told me this) my map was crap from wests whilst dms tuning box was great - admittedly both were 10 yrs ago but dms did take my old tuning box back and gave me a snooper for it in exchange (3yrs use of tuning box) out of goodwill
so i may be venturing along there.....
giac flash is good however seems to run the engine hot -service and attitude from regal is not what i expect and the flash was about twice the price of whats available on the forum discounts

Generic and custom are words thrown around alot.

I think members would be shocked at how many tuners in the UK buy generic files and don't custom tune at all

I can only say positive things about Regal and GIAC. Both were very responsive and friendly, I had a very good experience with them.
