Squeaky rear end

There's a metallic sounding squeaking noise coming from the rear of my car. With the windows up it sounds like interior panels squeaking in the rear but when you put the rear drivers side window down it's pretty loud. The noise is a lot worse when I'm wobbling about over the uneven roads at low speeds.

I had a bit of a bounce on the back of the car when I got home tonight and it appears to be on the rebound that the noise happens. Anyone had the same issue or have any idea what it could be? Suspension still feels perfectly smooth.

Worn suspension bushings or shock absorber? I think I read somewhere that these were common causes of squeaks.

I have a brief squeak too, as I pull away but I'm pretty sure it's the handbrake binding slightly...

WD40 all round?

What shape have you got mow?

My boot cover bit (that weighs a tonne!) squeaked for a while - the dealer sorted it.

could be handbreak sticking, drive round the block with it on a tiny bit

could be ball joint, worn bushings perhaps..

It's an e90. And the noise is definitely coming from the rear wheel area under the car. It's definitely not the handbrake. Going into my mates garage tomorrow so we'll find out what it is. I'm hoping it's bushes as they'll be cheapest although the ideal would be if it was a loose heat shield or something that could just be removed at no cost.

The problem was a squeaky rear subframe bush. The bush isn't worn, it's just noisy. It doesn't actually need fixed as long as I don't mind the noise but after putting the car in with my mate and him spending nearly 2 days looking for the squeak I don't really feel good about just saying "ok thanks, I'll turn the stereo up from now on and stop worrying".

I HATE spending money on repairs that don't make your car go quicker, handle better, stop quicker or look better.

KY jelly is good on an old bush.
Seriously

You could fit the M3 bushes in there, they are direct swap and will improve the rear end stability.
