Runflat puncture and fixing...

I know most places will tell you no, it can't be fixed to sell you a new tyre, and also because it's a runflat it can't be fixed but anyone actually KNOW if an independant (non bmw) place would fix this, or is it simply too close to the edge?

Screw is on inside edge. Kinda hard to say as it really depends on the inside as to wether its too curved for a repair to seal, probably just looking for re-assurance as the tyres only done 1000 miles < real tears better get saving!

OK, the theory behibd all this is that only you know how long the tyre has been run "flat" and therefore how much strain has been put on the unsupported sidewalls. The sidewalls may be damaged but not show any signs of this damage.

I think Michelin say that you CAN repair certain of their RFT's. Their website will confirm this if you have Mich's on.

It's all down to liability, and if the tyre subsequently fails after repair. Plus, although tyre repairs have been "type approved" on a normal tyre, they haven't been "type approved" on RFT's - and obviously, it's not in the manufacturers interests to submit to tests.

Many Indy's will repair RFT's - it's the same repair as a normal tyre. Thus, your screw is a repairable hole.

Big question - would I do it? I have done, but only as a stopgap. I threw away the RFT's and went to proper tyres!

It's never been run flat as TPM flagged up a loss of pressure (was down 7psi). A mate said it's too close to the sidewall so the pad which glues to the inside of the wheel won't sit flat (personally I think thats rubbish as if you squash the tyre to flatten that part against a bench, put repair patch on, then leave it to set i'd imagine that would be fine.)

Only reason I'd repair it is, it's done 1000 miles, hasn't been run-flat at all and a new tyre will be ~£300 - if I HAVE to buy one then so be it, not the end of the world but if it can be repaired, I'd rather to that obviously.
I'll take it to a local specialist and see what they say, as guarantee BM won't repair it and will want to put a new tyre on once removing tyre from rim, and screw from tyre...

Its a michelin premacy off an F10, think its 275/35/19, big tyre!

cheers for the input.

Thankfully not my tyre, on my dads F10 - still 19's but not as nice imo new tyre is £388 OUCHH deffo be repairing this one haha.

I'm gettin pissed off de-tarring mine all the time and dodging pot holes, really is a PITA! I'm sure they'll oxodise eventually if they get chipped as well, which will be a cow.

Will be trying my luck with BMW though, had a result before with oxodised poilished rims and they replaced all 4 wheels F.O.C.

Hate to say this but looks like it is too close to the shoulder of the tyre for a repair. This part of the tyre gets a lot of grief.

Just my 2p

Too close to the edge.

Same rules apply as for standard tyres - only repair in the middle 3/4.

Only its not.

It is too close to the edge IMO

A British Standard exists for puncture repair, BSAU159F

Yea, my dads talking about just getting a new tyre, personally if it was me i'd fix it myself, he drives like an old man, so tyres unlikely to be under any stress and probably never do over 80mph...

I'm aware it's not the done thing because its so close to the edge, but ask yourself if you'd pay £388 for another tyre when this one's practically brand new, but wrote off because of a screw.....although on the other hand, is it worth a potential accident.
