Diff oil

When I was racing an E30 in the PBMWC, I changed the diff oil, which gave a much better gearchange and smoother experience all round (the old oil was black as soot).

Is this something I should be doing on the E90 road car at some point? I ask, because my gearchange when cold is pretty hard and clunky. It eases out a bit when the car's warm, but is still a bit tough. Mainly 1st-2nd.

Cheers,
Mike.
