Which tyres are the best?

Now its the time to change the tyres on my 320d M Sport
Trying to make my mind up between
1.Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric
2.Avon ZZ3
3. Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta
Am looking to get rid of the RFT`s at last
Have any body fitted these to their BM

I'd disregard the Avon's straightaway.

Based on feedback and not experience of the two brands remaining, I'd go with the Vreds, a lot of people rate them and I think they would work out cheaper than the Goodyears.

I'd add the Falken 452's to the mix though, and go with them

I have the F1s and previously had Vredesteins.

I prefer the F1s.

F1s were on 18", Vredesteins on 19".

Conti sport contact 3's.

Or Falken FK452s if budget is a higher priority.

Of your list, disregard the Avons and I don't think you could be that unhappy with the other two, which both review well both officially and on forums. Both seem good value too - particularly the Goodyears for a premium tyre.

Like some of the others, I personally really like Conti SC3's, they are not perhaps the most overtly grippy in the dry but well balanced across a range of conditions and good in the wet, which is probably when most incidents occur.

Having said that I have had some weird tail-out moments on the CSC3's in cold weather since switching back to summer wheels/tyres recently - watch any summer tyre when it gets cold - both times it was about 2 degrees and it was not ice as it had been warm earlier in the day, and both times I was dawdling. Could have been diesel on the road but twice seems unlikely.

No recommendations for the new Conti 5P? Or is Tony the only person to have them fitted so far?

Another vote for the Goodyears F1's. Ive had them on my 325d now for 18 months and they have been a revelation after the Bridgestone RFT's.

I've been using Vredestein on my M5 for a couple ofyears now and they are very good, grip and last well, over 15k for the rear set, fronts do about 30k. I have had the Falken 452s on this car and they are OK but nothing like as good for grip, long life or noise. Vredestein are particularly sure footed in the wet and have coped OK in the snow and ice.

I have driven another M5 on Goodyear F1s for about 200miles, they are quieter than Vredestein and gripped well but turn in was dull in comparison. Owner of that car was not inpressed by life span either, 10k tops for the rear tyres.

I would have no qualms putting Vredestein on my soon to be collected 335D when the time comes.

Hope that helps.

Ian

Thanks for all the replies.
Looks like Avons are out for sure.
Think i will be going for the F1`s as the reports i have read on these look very good.
If its a struggle getting these then the Vred`s

Fit Falken FK-452.

Eagle F1 are acceptable for an FWD car and will be alot better than RFT but are imho not suitable for RWD at all.

FK-452 are a "good" tyre and definitely the best budget tyre imho.. Only PS2/ CS3/5Ps have had better reviews afaik on here... which all cost more than double. So...

... Compared to what other non-run flats that you've fitted on the E90 exactly?

I've run F1s on RWD cars before and theyre a perfectly good tyre, very good in the wet in fact but do shred a bit on a hot day with a little spirited driving.

Things I like to look for when buying a tyre are rim protection and the correct vehicle weight spec. I'm even considering a set of T1r for the summer.

T1R is obviously an excellent choice for dry weather.

I've been thinking about some T1R's for summer / trackday use.

888's are a bit noisey apparently, but don't know about T1R?

Not suitable for RWD? I didn't know that and neither, apparently, do Ferrari. Perhaps you had better phone them and give them the benefit of your research.

If possible - they cost more with holes but the extra outlay is worth it.
