Advise on Warranties please
Hello:
Just recently acquired a (08) 330D SE Convertible where the warranty runs out in June 11. I would appreciate if you great members would share your guidance on the best warranty offers to consider when this one runs out. I feel because of the roof system I'll be daft not to consider extending the warranty, Thanks. |

BMW Warranty, consider £100 excess if you want to lower your costs and drop the recovery option as the standard warranty covers recovery to nearest BMW dealer. Costs me about £35 per month paid monthly.

+1 on WD avoidance. Had it on another car and it was cack.
Just for balance - I didn't extend our warranty after doing some sums. I look after the car very well, don't do big miles and the numbers just don't add up - and it's not a "warranty" as such, it's insurance sold by third party companies. Manufacturer warrantys are there to help sell cars and are almost bombproof. Extended warrantys are there to play on "fear" and make the third party companies a lot of money. We just make sure we have some money in reserve just in case - if you have to insure everything up to the eyeballs because you are running too close to the wind, then can you really afford it? Life on the edge eh? ***the above comments are merely OPINIONS and not based on facts*** |

I've just purchased a 320d M Sport from The Car Shop and added the option of warranty from the RAC. On paper it looks pretty good but obviously I can't say if it actually is.
They added the cost to my finance but iirc the cost was £299 per year.

Extend the BMW one mate it is superb. No questions asked to the majority of claims. I put almost 4k through mine last year which for 400-500 quid was therefore obviously bargain of the century

Do you feel lucky?
The only thing to remember with the BMW Insurance Warranty is that you tie yourself to the dealer for servicing. If you can accept that, the BMW Warranty is the way to go.
But as 335diesel says, it is Insurance, not a true Warranty, i.e. there is an overall ‘profit’ in it for the seller. So – if you can afford to pay for repairs, with the possibility of a big ‘hit’, but the likelihood of paying out nothing like the premium, then you may wish to take a chance. |

Totally agree about the insurance aspect of the warranty, this is like any insurance, you pay a relatively small premium to protect yourself against a large bill that may or may not happen. Some like the comfort factor of knowing all is covered, others hate paying out for something they may never use. I would generally be in the later camp of not wanting to pay for something I may not use but the possibility of 4 figure repair sums swayed me towards the warranty. I also went pay as you go so it can be cancelled anytime which is another nice bit of piece of mind.

I think so but you need to watch the mileage as they are very funny about when what would otherwise be dead cert warranty claims start becomign "wear and tear".
Also they won't cover the car at all past 100k and the premium starts rising sharpy after 60..

Can someone confirm the rate increase for BMW warranty is for cars that are over 60k miles at date of renewal? Any dodgy loopholes they can use? My warranty isn't due to expire till around august this year but will be around 56k miles then and only really wanna pay under £500 for the year. Not paying any more!

Took out a 3 year warranty (AA / Motorway) when I bought the car 2nd hand. The dreaded DSC warning lights came on last week and I gave them a call today. Insisted that I took it to some local cowboy garage which charges 35pounds an hour and told me replacement parts must NOT be BMW parts where available! I decided to book the car in with a Franchised dealer to get a quote and go back to Motorway and see if they will pay the difference.
All in all I wouldn't have done it if I knew the policy was so restrictive. |
