Performance Diffuser install...having difficulties, need help :-(

I've recently bought a CF rear diffuser and tried fitting it today. Looked at the existing fittings and it seems that the OEM is connected by a bracket. However, the one I got has no holes at all and just small slats at the top to slide in. This will not hold it in place...

Therefore, has anyone bought and done an install themselves. I'd be grateful if you could help me in this matter.

Regards

Tiko

Seen a diy thread of this lately so try a search but I think you need to cut out some of the bumper behind where the diffuser goes, not much and nothing visible.

Unless I have seen it for an alternative brand of diffuser, I reckon it's what you gotta do

I fitted a similar Carbon Fibre Diffuser to my E90 a couple of years ago and if I remember correctly had to drill 6 or 7 small holes through the bottom part so that it could pick up on the standard lower mounting points!

From memory there are 4 fixing tabs (with barbs) along the top and these do a remarkable job of holding the whole thing in place!

I thought there'd be some drilling involved...not very diy tbh however will give it a go. I read that some trim has to be cut to get it to fit, did you have come across that too?

Cheers for that Hotcoupe...I will try it out. Here's what mine looks like

Mine is a one piece rather than the two separate bits like you get with the OEM diffuser.

Tikov if your new diffuser has no holes drilled in it, you'll need to use the old one to make a template and make new holes, alternatively use the lugs to place it in position and use a drill to put in some new holes.

The OEM one is a piece of cake to fit and I never encountered any cutting needed. It only took 15mins to fit, 5 mins of that was fitting the two parts of the diffuser together!

Diffuser on with pics.....

Let me start of by saying.......PHEEEEEEEEEEW!!!!!!

That wasn't easy at all...trim cut, re-bored holes and lots of pushing. Alas got it to fit, but there is still a bit of the trim that sticks out.

As you can see I've left unpainted as I'm trying to get the black/carbon fibre look against white.

Still got the front splitters to put on but it was getting dark so will do them next couple of days. The springs go on next week (though taking the car to dealers as wishone/arm might be broken/bent first)

After that I'm toying with CF mirrors but...still not convinced.

Cheers

If I had to fit another it'd be a doodle...just you need to shave at least about 2cm of the trim from certain places to make it fit perfect. Mine was trial and error getting it on and off to see where exactly it had to be done. Otherwise...it was well made and looks spot on when it's fitted.

Looks good Tikov and glad you finally got it fitted.

What bulbs have you got, are they ring markers?

CC...seriously just shave about 2cms from where the top barbs and all round it'll fit without problem then.

Mmm...I'm a bit mixed about the rings tbh mate. They emit nothing compared to the current models rings and during the day they are hardly visible. Hence a bit of jiggery pokery and I've got the inner ones to be much brighter. Although not a patch on the current models rings.

No Mate, it's a carbon version of the original looking 335i darker centre section. Not genuine.
