Tyre question
My 335i touring is on its way now and the first thing on my mind is to change the wheels from 18" MV3 to 19" either 313 or some after market. Its relitively easy to decide which alloys I want but as far as tyres are concerned Iam in dark. So please advise me which brands are the best value for money in 19" tyres. just to give you an idea that I dont do tracks so any tyres which are good in wet and normal road conditions would be the way to go. Please advise me accordingly. Thanks

Falken 452s are very popular on here.
Do check tyre sizes and availability - some are very limited. |

I have used them on my previous e60 but not for long before I part ex the car. I have heard good reviews about them but still little unsure.
Anyone with Falkens on for sometime and used them in all sort of weather conditions in summer and road condtions ? |

Continentals get a very good review but much more expensive than falkens. Try searching the forum, several threads.

I ran Falken 452s on my 19" 313's from summer last year until about 3 weeks ago, right through the winter.
I got about 20k or so out of the rears, which was better than the OEM RFTs got. They were great tyres, grip in all conditions was just fine. I am on Conti CSC3's now. They are marginally better in terms of grip. I am only using them now because I got a great price on some older stock. Given normal pricing situations, I will return to the Falkens again without hesitation. |

I've been running Falkens for quite a few years and have found them pretty good in terms of performance and wear.
You could also consider the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vr...c-Sessanta.htm The Vreds are slightly more expensive than the Falkens but get good reviews. I'd recommend you go + 1 on the tyre size to 235/35/19 and 265/30/19. Camskill are pretty good on price Falken http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m55b443s0p0 Vreds http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m55b758s0p0 Just seen it's a tourer, you'll have to review the tyre sizes, the above are for the E92 Last edited by Hotcoupe; 03-08-2011 at 12:29 PM.. The latest Contis CSC 5ps I think get great reviews, there is one on the forum. Personally I find Michelin PS2s work really well with this car. It is just a personal thing but do you want to put mid range rubber on a performance car like the 335i?

No, I don't want to put mid range tyres on my car but if they are of mid range price but of good quality over all then i wouldn't mind.

Tell you what, I'll trade you a set of Michelin PS2s for a set of Wanki Linglongs that look like they've come out of the same mould... Deal? |

THEN you'll notice the diffference. In some of the proper tyre tests the difference between the best and worst PREMIUM tyres at 70mph can be up to 2 car lengths in stopping distance, let alone the difference between premium and budget. Ask yourself if you've ever had to stop in a hurry. Now think about what would have been the outcome had your car taken 2-3 car lengths more to stop. Then stop cheaping out on tyres |

It's a difficult one really. The previous poster mentioned stopping in the wet. Good point, but most driving is probably done on a dry(ish) road and sometimes, one tyres strengnth in the wet is negated when in the dry.
Many more variables also come into play, such as the amount of wear on the tyre and uneven wear. Also under/over inflation must play a part. |

As with everything in life you get what you pay for.....
FWIW I would advise buying premium such as - Bridgestone Dunlop Continental Pirelli I would also advise buying Star designated tyres (ie made and designed especially for BMW). It's like brakes. Compare an E92 stopping distance fitted with genuine BMW brakes and one fitted with aftermarket cheaper barkes. You would only ever buy genuine brake parts again. |

The Falken 452 performs AT LEAST as well in any circumstance as the oem 19" RFT in my opinion. I have also used PS2, slightly better dry grip but twice the cost. I include daily drive, subzero, wet, dry, hot and trackday in my experience with them. Star marked tyres are not designed or made for BMW. Merely they are endorsed or 'approved for use by' BMW, and others like Mercedes in many cases - make of that what you will. It could simply be a cash bung What numbers do you have for those stopping distances, can you post it up? (Im intrigued as I did some datalogging with all oem and EBC + Brakes International rotors on my 335i last year) S. Last edited by m1bjr; 03-10-2011 at 08:54 AM.. |

Considering they are relatively the same price as non star tyres of the same type it seems odd BMW would waste money on a "bung". I don't know much about Falkan (spelling ?) but have since learned they are owned by Dunlop which would reassure me if I was buying that brand. |
