07 320d more effecient then 55 320d?

Quick question.

would there be n e difference in engine between a 55plate 320d saloon and 07 plate 320d coupe. Both SE's. The saloon is auto and the coupe is manual but the coupe seems to be getting better MPG then the Saloon (about 5-6 more)

Would the 07 plate be a more economical version or would they be identical (engine wise)

after 07, 20d engines are equiped with the efficient dynamics engines, that produce 14BHP more than the old engine, and they are more economical, hence the ED title

The difference is not about coupe/saloon, but manual/auto. Auto cars typically lose approx 5-10% fuel economy due to additional transmission losses inherent in an auto transmission, unless the transmission has no torque converter (DSG/DCT etc) in which case fuel economy is very similar.

IIRC, an 05 will be the 160odd engine, then the 07 will be the 177bhp engine. from mid 09 it became 184bhp (except the efficent dynamics which is 163).

07 will be better than on 05, but in the real world I doubt there will be much in it.

The 07 will only be better if it was built after September 07 which was the changeover to Efficient Dynamics. Some September built cars will be 163bhp without and some 177bhp with.

depends on how you drive it and every engine is different most get 40mpg and other get 50mpg depends on how it was run in from new i guess,

You can tell by looking at the exhaust. Bent downwards is 163bhp straight out then it's the 177bhp.

yes the coupe has a straight exhaust so presuming it has a DPF and therefore has the effecient dynamics? It does stop start when at lights etc (once its reached certain temp)

so what about the auto with effecient dynamics? does that stop start too?

Im looking to change my car in the summer for a E92 coupe with lower miles as im racking them up big time on this one!!
