Wonderful, Simply Marvellous!

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday I finally got to take my car up the mountain overlooking my wonderful city.

Forget about straight line times & races. Take the car up (and down) the mountain with LOTS and I mean lots of turns - hairpin turns for the best effect. WOW what a car. What an engine. What a chassis. Stuck to the road like GLUE. And accelleration was phenominal UPHILL. Used M mode for best effect. And what an exciting effect.

Great day, dry roads excellent conditions and the car was fully laden with passengers as well. No effort at all. The tighter the turn, the better the car handled!!! At no time did I notice any yellow DSC light come on to take control BUT I did not race it through the corners in an irresponsible manner either. I had my family with me. I stayed pretty much to the posted speed limits in the residential/tourist shopping areas but took it a little further when it was safe enough to do so.

I could feel how much more the car had to offer, should I have chosen to push it but just taking it to my comfortable limits was more than enough for me. Mind you my rear seat passengers were not so thrilled being thrown around a bit but the boys LOVED it anyway.

Gear M3 was the choice pick gear for the bulk of the uphill drive, but M2 was also used but very sparingly as it was too torquy & powerful if you can believe it!

So I was wondering just how much more exciting the 330 would have been or an M3 or M5 or M6. Then I thought to myself and discussed with everyone on board that they would have been the same excitement level because of the posted and self imposed speed limits. The 2.5 litre 325 is more than enough car for everyday driving on public roads full of other commuters.

It was a marvellous afternoon of taking the car to really see what its handling was about and I was not dissapointed at all. Not that I expected to be, mind you.

Now, how much is the M5 again?????

Any similar experiences for this thread?

My thoughts exactly

Glad to hear others are just as smitten w/ the 325i as I was test driving it. For 90% of most driving situations, it give 100% driving satisfaction! Oh. . .nice to see you also like to take the corners. I can only wait till I have enought $$ to buy my own.

It reminds of the old Beatles song "The Long and Winding Road". That's the road I sometimes take on the way home, just for the pure driving enjoyment.

Just a question, is the 325i in Oz a 2.5L...everywhere else seems to be a 3.0L.

Thanks.

The OZ version of the 325 is indeed a 2.5 litre GEM!!!
160Kw and 250Nm teamed with 98RON fuel and I am in heaven!!!

Its just in the USA and is it also Canada? that it's a detuned 3 litre engine, due to emission regulations. I hope that doesn't mean that the 325 emits more pollutants

Look forward to it but don't forget to run the engine in first. We don't get the xi cars in Australia. Sounds great. Just fuel it with the best quality fuel you can find.

Don't worry, I ran in my '04 325 like a good boy, then my '05 Subaru Legacy too....enough running in already!!

Oh, and we can get 94 octane around here, it really makes a difference.

So David, i just want you to know that I agree with your thread here. The 325 is a ton of class, but when you need a little juice, you just downshift and off she goes! The engine and drivetrain are smooth as silk, really it's like the Step is really a manual. The car actually slows down with the gearing when you decelerate, unlike an old-fashioned Auto which lets you coast when you take your foot of the pedal.

I love the Soft-Stop, it works fine for me, not what I have read for a few others. The stereo (stock) is awesome, the quiet inside the car is luxurious, and the look inside and out is Elegant. I'm up to 250kms since last night...the fun is just beginning! I want all my friends to run out and buy one (from my guy)!
