Official BMW Number Plates

Mine need a refresh so want to purchase a new set. Do you know how much Sytner etc charge for a pair?

Just had a couple of plates made up from my local dealer, who charged £28 inc vat.

No; no logos. It was just the standard one they do with the border and 'Sytner BMW' at the bottom.

I woul dhave liked the original plates my car came with "steven James" BMW but when I picked it up from Douglas Park BMW they had put their plates on, not a big issue really jut would have been nice.

I know some of the RS boy's are going mad over original dealer plates and window stickers for their old steed's these days, although can't imagine when my bmw is 25 years old anyone will care what plates it has on it!

I paid £9 each for plates from both my local dealer and also Westerly BMW when I got plates printed by them (They are next to the DVLA office so it was handy).

We paid £10 from Ocean with the 'GB' bit so at £28 they saw you coming!

Certainly worth having the GB if there is any chance of you taking the car abroad on holiday - save you buying a GB sticker.

It is the law that anyone who produces a number plate must now put their name on the bottom so the Old Bill know who to visit if it's been made up illegally.

I got mine FOC from my dealer and would expect nothing else given the advertising I am doing for them. Its just a matter of asking the right person.

Also plenty of Ebay sellers will make up plates and put garage names etc at the bottom.

They didnt really see me coming as you say, as I have had plates made up by them before, and it was a similar price. It must just be this dealership that's expensive.

Also, as the car was in for a service and I had all the DVLA documents with me, it was just easier to do it there and then as I couldnt really be bothered to have to post them off to the cheapest dealership and then wait a few days for them

£20 for a couple of plates from BMW is a great price though.

FOC even better!

It's always annoyed me that the dealer sticks their name on the plate - same with the sticker on the rear window.

I always get rid of it. If they want to advertsie on my car then they should pay me!

Interesting point about the legal requirement to have the name though. I order my plates online - they are, strictly speaking, show plates which is how they get away not having to ask me if I'm the owner of the car I guess, but they are legal in terms of font and spacing.

Does an MOT just test for font and spacing, or will they require the makers name too?

LOL! I got the handover salesman to climb in the back of my new e90 and remove the window sticker before i'd sign for the car back in 06 as i'd told them not to put any stickers in it. Barstewards.

I always get plates from showplates.com etc, good quality, legal options if you want (i do) and no paperwork.

Why the fuck should i have to take V5 and PASSPORT to get plates made by some old geezer in parts that peels on the corners after a few months.

As if any real criminals would be scuppered by that pointless Police State Nu Labour law.... oh dear we can't get plates for the getaway car as i don't have my passport and V5....

I disagree, the set on the M5 looked the nutz, but they HAVE to be used with plate surrounds.
