MThe new Continental SC5 vs Michelin PS2

Why is it that the Conti tyres are a similar prices to the SportContact 2s and 3s whereas the Michelins are still a good 305 more expensive?

Are the Michelins that much better in terms of performance or do they just last longer and give you a longer life?

I have no experience of the Conti tyres but over the years I have worked my way through 4 or 5 sets of PS2 and imo they are fantastic at all times except for the very coldest of the winter months. That said at 30% less I might give the Contis a try next time around.

In past reviews the SC5 is now reguarded as the better all rounder. PS3 are out now as well [although last time i checked not in the right sizes] but the reviews havent been good, they said they improved wet grip slightly and that was all....

If you look at reviews I think overall they are saying SC5 is the better choice. PS2s where a lot better than SC3 but SC5 made a lot of changes.

Not sure really, a lot of serious people use SC 5 like e92fan checkout his review here:

I think the point is that the CS5 had a lot of room to improve on the CS3, as good a tyre as the latter is. The PS3 had a much harder time as the PS2 was widely regarded as the best tyre money could buy and had been for some time..

They're both great tyres, they have slightly different characteristics, you just need to buy ther one that suits you best.

The PS3 is, bizarrely, not a replacement for the PS2 and thus doesnt perform as well. They are re-alligning the product range, the true PS2 replacement is the Pilot Super Sport.

I read that too, Michelin say the PSS maintains the dry grip of the PS2 whilst gaining the wet grip of the PS3.

So it is no better in the dry and warm than a PS2.

So for someone like me who runs a winter setup, the good old PS2's are still the best bet for summer use IMO (as the PSS aren't available in our 18" M sport sizes)

....unless you go a bit silly and get trackday rubber for summer use....

I've just ordered a set of the SC5 for 800 quid fitted. I couldn't easily get prices for the PS2 from my local fitter so went for the Conti. Will find out on Thursday if they are any better than the Bridgestone RFTs.
