email from the dealer to trade my 08 e92 335i for a brand new 2011 e92 335i

Hey guys,

I got this email today from my dealership that I bought the car from (South Bay) and they told me that they are in need of a 2008 335ci which I have and is willing to do a complete trade for my car for a 2011 335ci. Did anyone else get this email or what would you do in my case of you did receive this email?

As a side note my car is heavily modified with parts from exterior to rims and it is going to be a hassel to take it off. On the side note the only thing that is making me want to do this is that it is a 2011 and I get the 4 year warranty cover again, don't have to pay for anything, but I don't care for the grey splitter in the front bumper and the square side mirrors but those lci tail lights are amazing. What should I do?

I've gotten the same exact email/snail mail for every car I've owned in the past 10 years. I just got one for my 98 Yukon (that I haven't owned in 10 years)

It is an ancient scam to get you into the dealership. They'll offer you Manheim wholesale and try to sell you a new one for MSRP.

They don't want your car, they just want to sell you a new one.

Come on people you've got to be wiser than this to function in the world. Don't raise your hands every time somebody asks you for your wallet unless they definitely have a gun. Even then I'd ask if it was loaded.

Go for it. Call their bluff, then leave frustrated. At least it would be a learning experience.

yeah, i thought it sounded to good to be true. This is the first time I have gotten something like this. And I would not think bmw would do such a thing. I thought they would want it for some research or recall or something like that. But thanks for telling me honestly.

What's BMW have to do with it? It's South Bay BMW. It's a dealership. It's an independent franchise reseller. They buy their inventory from BMW and sell them to all the chumps on the street.

Got the same email from my dealer about my 08 335xi E90 so I said eh why not. Went in and they offered me Manheim price towards a new one. They basically just made my payments go longer.... So I declined and lemoned it a few weeks later.

I get the same thing from Nissan saying there's a shortage of 1998 Nissans, crazy.....

I did the MB thing saying they wanted my BMW and get some free auto show tix and $50 pre-paid Visa. They offered me $23,800 for my '07 E92 335 with 25k. How generous....

Hey Josh, I wasn't trying to make a smart reply, just an observation. No worries! Recently the stealer contacted me to do their pull ahead program. I decided I wanted another BMW. They paid my last three months lease payments. And my new lease payments were $75 lower. The deal was right. They got a great CPO, I got a new e90 with new warranty - Made sense to me.

Do you want another BMW? If so, and the deal is right, I'd say go for it.

I can't beleive he seriously considered turning down the thought of trading his 08 335i for a 11 335i straight. That's a $15,000 trade. He could have done the trade, sold the car the next day to carmax for $4,000 less than msrp and bought a used car just like his and pocketed at least $10,000. Or even if he drove the car he could sell it for $10,000 more when he's done with it.

Don't get me wrong it's an obvious ploy, and I've gotten it before too, but if it were real I'm surprised how people don't seem to care that $10,000 is being dropped in their lap - crazyness.

Yeah I go by the rule if the deal sounds too good to be true then it probably is

This sounds like a ploy to get you to walk into the dealership and frankly I think it's unethical. Actually there's a name for this kind of scam: bait and switch.

Every manufacturer uses that same scam to get you to but a new one! Wait until they start offering you 120% trade in.
