Car was delivered when completed
The untrained eye will not notice the mirror covers or the roof extention. Waiting on bonnet to arrive. Phase 2 will be easy, so will Phase 3. The hard phases will be 4 (body kit, exhaust, etc) and 5 (interior, pedals, etc).

It is very important to order the rear windows. Otherwise, it'll be a pain in the butt to modify them and make them fit (and stick). The rear window trim is actually INSERTED - you will have to replace both rear windows so that the window trim will snap into place. What DCC did to mine was "modify" the rear pieces to make them fit. It works for now. When I'm finished the project, I'm going to place a special order from Germany and order the rear trim again ... and order the windows from BMW and do it right. But that'll probably be the very last thing I do. Last edited by Donibm; 02-15-2011 at 08:52 AM.. |

I actually used VHT Nite-Shade. The color was good, but I was a little unhappy with the texture (clear coat), so I had DCC redo them. I've heard some people use "Limo tint" (if u want it dark). Try that and see how it works. Last edited by Donibm; 02-15-2011 at 08:50 AM.. Reason: removed mention of SAT |

PROJECT UPDATE: well, there's nothing to report other than I fought with Lumma on the mats they sent AND WON! They will send me proper mats without the hell pad and the holes near the base. Apparently, there is something to do with "insurace", so they sent front mats that had a thick heel pad and holes at the base of the mats to screw into the flooro of the car. I hate the look. I argued for about 3-4 weeks and they have caved in and will include the mats with the bonnet ... which should be here in August? I don't even know man. But I think I've been waiting on the bonnet for about a month now. Maybe longer.
I love the gas/brake pedals. Not installing them yet. Don't like the entrance borders. They look like the Porshe entrance borders. So, I'm going to have bodyshop customize them to match gas/brake pedals when I put care in for hood replacement. Going to do a few minor things as well. Figured out the wheels I want - the Hamaan wheels (concave) for the X5M and X6M. They are expensive though. Strictly Foriegn quoted just over $12,000. BUT, the good thing is I don't expect to be driving next to ANYONE and seeing my wheels on thier car. Ultimately, this project is on the back burners. Wife and I are in a contract for a home and the closing costs is pretty damn high. Have to focus on that first, and we'll need more furnture for the 2500 sq ft home. I'll post pics after the next phase is done. |

all moved into new house. enjoying it. X5 project obviously has put on the back burner. May not complete and may simply wait for new model design (guessing it will be by 2014) and simply get that. I may just bypass the actual kit and get the shoes ($13K Hamann concaves) and be done with this. House needs my $$$ attention.
I'll still slap on the bonnet, match the bonnet vent to the grill/window trim, white fog lights, body color the door guards, black out the calipers and drums. I may simply settle for body coloring the bumpers instead of getting the kit. This is easy stuff. The only things I'm missing are the "shoes" (wheels) and kit, but the kit is about $18K and the shoes are $13K. Buying and furnishing a new home was not part of my plans when i started this project, so I may stop at the wheels. Eveyone says that once I slap some wheels on it, it'll look really good anyway. I dunno. Just financially strapped now after purchasing this house/furniture/moving costs/closing costs/etc. Plus, now wifey is having major problems with her Lincoln. Only good thing with this is, I'm trying to convince her to come the Bimmer way. lol She's so sent on an Audi though. |
