e90 330i rear defroster prob
So last night it snowed again and I brushed most of the snow of my car before I started driving back home from work. After 15-20 min of driving and havin rear defroster on the thin layer of snow that was comming of the roof did not move or hardly melt. Do e90s have this weak defroster or I should maybe get it checked out? Funny thing is I saw a guy in another 335 e90 right in front of me and there was clear water dripping down his rear window. I have to change oil soon so I am wondering should I ask them to check my defroster too?

Rear defrost is weak in the 330. Make sure your battery is up to snuff. When my battery was going bad my rear defrost wouldn t even work. Just had a battery put in this week defrost is working now but the SA told me that the 2006 330 was weak.

i could of sworn i had read a post where the guy said some features in the car dont work if the batt is weak. I use my car 1-2x per week and have noticed lately that the rear defrost wont go on at all..took me about 40 minutes of driving the other day before it finally started to kick in.

Recently I got a battery indicatior on the cluster so it looks like we are onto something here. I checked the battery color indicator thats right on it with green, black and yellow posibilities and mine shows black which means insuficient charge. Now I dont know how reliable this indicator is to be trustworthy. Last night I took my dads volt meter and checked the battery from the terminals at the front of the car after driving the car to the store and it showed 14.5 Volts when turned off. Then this morning after leaving the car overnight it showed 13.7 which leads me to think that altenator and battery seem fine.
Also my defroster worked last night for what ever reason. Its really fuzzy problem and I never had any trouble of turning on the car even on -30s we had few times here. I will keep close eye on the battery but I am releved to hear that defroster is not the best thing on this car. Thanks for the input |

ok so I saw the stamp on the battery negative terminal says 41 05 (41 week of 05) which means its over 5 years old. I have been told batteries usually start dying past 5 years but I know some of them actually have up to 8 years of warranty. Do you guys think its safe to just replace it sooner than later?

we dont have autozone here in canada. I took the car in this morning for oil change and asked the stealer to do the load test on the battery. It does cost a little but at least they check the altenator too. Anyways battery load test failed twice so new one is going in. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Rear Defrost Problem
I have also had an intermittent problem with the rear defrost on my 2006 330xi. It works a good deal of the time, but does not work the colder the weather. I've had the problem since the car was new, but couldn't get it resolved under warranty due to hassles with no dealership (until recently) where I live. Thanks for the suggestion about the battery. I have been looking to replace it, and will check if that solves the problem.

Cold weather decreases battery performance.
