Question Extended BMW warranty 8 days past 4 years???

Hi,

My 335i 16,000 miles AT, Sport, Premium is 8 days past original warranty.

I've been having the Rough start sel's lately and Dealer has been unable to repair the last 4 months or so.

I realize that a fix can be very expensive eg. when all the injectors are changed, etc. on and on ad nauseum...

I would like to purchase the extended BMW warranty--Can it be done??

I am the original owner.

All help is greatly appreciated!!

I would say no. It used to be until late 2009 that the cut-off was 45 mos or 45k, and must be original owner. Now it is 48 mos. or 50k and you don't have to be the original owner anymore (kinda dings the CPO market but obviously BMW wants $$$). But you can try having a dealership's finance mgr. read your key.

Not knowing that the 45 mo. cut-off was eliminated, I bought my extended warranty 5 mos. early. Why? I felt I had buying power, and when the 3rd dealership gave me a discount, I figure get it now before the deal is gone or say this mgr. who offered got fired or something. Earned like $30 of cash rebates on my amex and no sales tax.

If this has been a problem over the last 4 months, BMWNA should recognize that and fix it on good faith. Also, best way to determine whether or not you can get the extended warranty would be to ask your dealer...or a dealer in the next town over.

Thanks for all the replies.

My thinking was that since my car had only 12,000 miles 5 months ago that a extended warrany would not be needed, Although now that I have found the Black Hole of BMW HPFP, Injectors, engine misses, etc. and the Dealerships in-ability to fix correctly I might just be "**@@**"...

Thanks racer:

I agree they should fix unresolved issues that began in warranty and they promise they will...

One or more dealers say NO BMW EXTENDED--BUT: They would be so Happy to sell one of those "Aftermarket" warranty; Which of course Folks have had mixed or failed results.

You have to own a BMW to be able to relate. My car was flawless for 34 mos. Then out of nowhere it would simply stall for no reason. Dealership said 3X nothing's wrong with the car--it was infuriating. Took 6 mos. until finally after a PUMA case, it's been ok for the last 10 mos. My car had 17k when it acted up.

It's water under the bridge but you coulda done a 6/70 or 7/70 since your mileage is so low. I did 7/100 since 100 is not that much more than 70, but in reality I probably wont even reach 70k at this rate....maybe the aftermarket is worth a try. No clue which, but maybe do buy it from a BMW dealership, so at least you can hold that dealership accountable. I know that Penske owned dealerships DO NOT sell BMW extended warranties, they sell their own. Good luck...

Thank you John.

Out of nowhere with 12,000 miles I experienced the biginnings of the

"Dreaded HPFP Limbo"... Took the car immediantly to the Dealer and told them what it did and what I thought it was--Based on Thousands of stories of all the other HPFP woes

So what did they do??

They replaced the DMTL!!!!!! AND 1 week later; same old shit!!
I've spoken to the Service manager and he was professional and said They will fix correctly this time--X4. I tend not to believe him though. I am going to give him every opportunity though.

I had a problem with my radio that was unresolved. My factory warranty expires this month and in 1500 miles. My SA said that it is documented while in the warranty period and they would stand behind it. He also said I have a period of time after the warranty is up to extend it. But I think that every dealer is different. I will stick to what the others are saying and tell you to ask them. Maybe over the phone and don't disclose who you are if you are worried about it. But they make a commission off of warranties, so they will try to sell one if they can find a way to do it. But if its HPFP related, it will be fixed warranty or not since you are under the extended HPFP recall time frame.

as long as you reported the problem before it was expired the dealer should repair it under warranty(provided the dealer found the problem soon after warranty expired).
that's what my dealer told me.

They are one of our sponsors and sell some great stuff through getbmwparts.com. If anybody could sell you the BMW extended warranty I bet they would.

You can get a BMW Powertrain Plus contract when you are out of warranty.
