please help, car has become a death trappp!!

i used to have 18 inch rims on my 335xi coupe. and i just got 19 inch rims. i was driving today on a straight highway and when i went past 90 the car felt floaty like the front end was lifting off the ground and i had no control. is that because my new wheels make the car sit high off the ground? because it used to feel planted to the ground no matter how fast i went

PLEASE GO TO PAGE 4 TO SEE MY UPDATE

you need to break in your new tires first.... New tires have lubricant applied to prevent them from sticking in their mold. Some of the lubricant stays on the surface of your tires, reducing traction until it is worn away. Five hundred miles of easy acceleration, cornering and braking will allow the mold release lubricant to wear off, allowing the other tire components to begin working together.

Sure, you know, KY lubricant all over the tire.

The poster is correct that tires need to broken in though but that is NOT the OPs problem.

He needs to tell us what tires he has.

i used to have the 18 inch 189 style rims i dont know the tire size of them but they were the stock ones. i got 19x8.5.ET-35 avant garde m310 rims in the front with 235/35/19 Continental Extreme Contact DW. and in the rear i got 19x9.5/ET-33 with 265/30/19 Continental Extreme Contact DW tires in the rear. i've had the tires on for about 500 miles and this was the first time going fast. the road was very smooth. can it be because the car now sits higher up that the front feels like its coming off the ground? because up to about 70mph it feels like it used to, but past that now it feels like im loosing control of the car

The tire company must have accidentally used aviation rubber in the fronts.

How about weather condition? Cold, hot, wet, icy? Proper weather condition plays a role in proper break in.

the weather is very cold but roads are clear. you dont think it has to do with the car being high off the ground???? because like i said even right now at 60mph the car feels fine so if the tires werent broken in then wouldnt it feel crappy even at 60? the problem comes in once i go past 80mph. the rear feels fine, the front felt like it was coming off the road. could it be going that fast with the wind resistance and the car sitting high it pulls the car from side to side. there wasnt really any wind out but think of a car going straight and a hugee gust of wind at 130mph came towards the car, the car would feel like the nose was lifting off the ground and you'de have no control.

Your car should not sit any higher up. The wheels are bigger but I'll bet the tires have a lower profile than your previous ones. It should all work out to be roughly the same or your speedo won't be correct.

if you look at the car from the front you can see a bigger gap between the fender and the road then there was before.

Are you sure of this? Did you actually measure it? Looks can be deceiving.

I have 19's on my 328 with the same size tires, and it feels fine.. If it isn't your tires.. it could be your wheels.. I'm not sure if your Avant Gardes' have hubcentric rings, but maybe someone who has these wheels can chime in. I know for a fact that if you don't have hubcentric rings, it will make the car go out of control at certain speeds.

Guess there is a bigger gap. I didn't see the before and after tire sizes before i posted. Seems you got the wrong profile. Not sure if that's what's causing your issue though. Sorry.

Shocks and springs won't solve your problem, bad shocks and springs will create a higher bounce rate.

hmmm.. Check your tires to see if you have any rocks or pebbles wedged. Just last month, I had a small rock wedged in between the grooves and shook my car at high speeds coming from the front.

p.s. Check your alignment as well.
