Footwell maintenance

The 4 month long winter here in sweden is soon coming to an end, time to do a minor recond!

Most of it i can fix myself but the footwell is a trouble area, since we use salt here in sweden i have layers of salt on the inside fabric of the footwell, not on the carpet but on the actual lining or what you may call it. Is there a way to remove this lining or do you guys have any other ideas or tips & tricks on what to do with it?

I'd use the hose attachment for a steam cleaner set to rinse only. Should get most of the salt up.
