Dont Do Parking Lot Donuts
So my town just got a big dump of snow so wanted to have some parking lot fun.
5 minutes later there is a ghost cop car with it's lights on, a $400 ticket and my car has been impounded. I had no idea I could be such a hazard to an empty, snow covered parking lot > |

of course you were not putting anyone in harms way and breaking any "real" laws, he was just there waiting to collect some money.
what kind of parking lot was it? public or private?

Oh, you know him? U know the cirumstances? Tell us more about the guy who puts his life on the line every day. A fellow officer of mine was shot tonight...thanks.
What's the rest of the story? Private property? Public? Time of day? Attitude toward the officer? Past history? There's three sides to every story... |

If we didn't enforce such penalties.... mass chaos? Driving is a priviledge. Would I have impounded the car? Prob not, but you would have a court appearrance to explain to the judge why he should allow you to continue operating a vehicle.

crazy world
What is wrong with learning skid control on empty parking lot in snow!!!! I guess, it is better to "frieze" during skid on the highway, and kill yourself? The cop is just stupid. let me guess.......... the OP is a young guy........

@BreakPoint - thank you for your service. Except when I'm getting a ticket, I really appreciate that the police protect my old ass. Sorry about your fellow officer getting shot. No excuse for that. Also hard to find an excuse for impounding someone's car for doing donuts in a vacant, private parking lot.

$400 ticket and Impounded? Were you being obnoxious to the officer? If not, then that's pretty ridiculous and sounds like one of those cases of Mr. Bigtime Officer needing to impose their authority on someone who has a nice car.

If you knew the difference between a privilege and a right the answer would be obvious. While the impound sounds a bit harsh, perhaps it is warranted based on a standing law in the area similar to some of the street racing laws in the US. If this lot was a frequent spot for activities perhaps the police were aware and monitor it more closely than usual. The property owner might have been trying to prevent this as well. As has been said before, there are three sides to the story, and my guess is we'll never hear the other two, yet we are quick to assign blame. Good luck getting the car back. |
