17" wheels
I tried a search, but I admit I only searched the title of this thread. Is anyone running 17" aftermarket wheels on the E92's? Everyone seems to be going 19" and I personally would rather have less weight and better performance than the looks of a huge ass wheel. So....
Any know what manufacturers make 17" wheels for the E92 335i's? Thanks |

No offense to BBS wheels or the people that buy them, but IMO while the quality is high...so are the weights. I'm looking for something as light as possible, but still a little stylish. Function>form

I have the same mindset, performance over looks.. since I've only got a 328i I need all the gains I can get, ahah. I've come to the conclusion based on a Car&Driver article that said 18" wheels were the best for performance. Keeping this in mind I looked at the Forgestar F14's which are supposed to be extremely light for the $, and of course my dream rims Advan RS's..
-James *EDIT* There's also Apex-Arc8's, if I recall the name correctly. |

LTW5... Or used set of BBS RG-R.., either in 17x9 though personally not sure about 9" front... Depends on the BBS wheel whether it will be light enough...
There's also the TR Motorsport MT1 in 18. 18s aren't necessarily going to be heavy. For me it's about the tire sidewall getting too short with 18s, and the brakes on a 328 looking silly. And sizes like 245/40/17 are cheap even for Michelin PS2.

Also still waiting on the WheelSTO guys for quotes on 17" Japanese wheels... Just saw that Advan semi-forged in 17" they posted recently.

I just put Beyern Mesh 17" wheels on my e90. I think the size is fine and with the lovely Illinois roads we have going any bigger would be torture. I have 225/45/17 Conti's DWS installed and love them. I just got the car home tonight from Detroit about 400 miles of snow, sleet, and ice without issue.

The car and driver article is not clear that 17's are better than 18's. The differences are minimal, on balance the 17's even arguably come out ahead.
Link to C&D article Compared to 18's, 17's are 0.1 second faster to 60 0.1 second faster standing quarter mile 2 feet longer to stop .04g worse on the skidpad .9 mpg better 3lbs lighter $28 less (wheel plus tire) I'm on the fence. 17's look fine to me, 18's look fine...er. But the roads here 35 miles north of NYC are absolutely *brutal* now, and even though I'll be going with non-RFTs I'm leaning toward 17's to be on the safe side especially because I'll be upgrading suspension at some point (non-ZSP now) But I'm still on the fence 17 vs 18, not sure what will push me over to one side or the other.

One thing I learned this past winter with my 17"s is the stick-on weights at my local tire shop were too big to clear the front brakes. The 17"s barely clear front brakes on the 335i. Something you might want to consider if you're going for them as your primary tire.

17's on the rear, you can see where the caliper scratched the wheel
18 stock up front
