DW or DWS?

I'm looking to switch over to non-RFT side. I *think* the Conti DW or DWS are a good buy.. my first question

I'm in Florida and my car will never see snow - do I go with the DW then? Are the DWS any different in ride/confort? I see the tread rating is higher on the DWS which would be a plus i terms of value....what are the cons if any of DWS vs DW for me. also, I should mention I don't track my car (just a DD).

I'm on a tight budget this year ( getting married ) so I'd also like to go with a setup ~$800 tops.

Also, should I just stick with the stock tire sizes.. I see some people are going "square" on the style 189s so they can rotate?

PS. Any other tires that I should consider?

I just put DWS' on mine coming from RFTs. The ride quality is significantly improved and the road noise dropped off dramatically.

You don't see any snow but you guys get a lot of rain down there in FL, All Seasons are still a good bet unless you want to keep a set for the rainy season and run summers when its dry.

If it's going to be your DD that you aren't looking to show off, I don't see why you wouldn't go square as it allows you to extend the life of your tires which is what you would want considering you mentioned you're on a tight budget.

Summers are not a problem in the wet.

FWIW my daily got a flat today and I have DWS on all 4-corners. Called TireRack and Discount Tire, DWS are out of stock in most sizes nationwide and not expecting new stock for at least 3-4 weeks.

I'm looking between the Pilot A/S Plus and DW myself.. DWS probably won't handle as tight as the DW. If I went 'square' on my set up, does that mean narrower in back or wider in front so they all match?

Will it look "funny" ? , as someone else asked, do you go wider in the fronts or narrower in the back?

Go with DW. Amazing tire. These are the most comfortable tire i've experienced and the grip is impressive.

Definitely go with the DW. I'm really not even sure why you would consider a tire that is semi-made for snow in FL. I just got the DW and they are awesome tires. Leaps and bounds above the stock RFT.

is the higher tread rating not worth considering on the DWS ( yes, even if I'll never drive in snow?)

To add, I do a lot of highway driving, get's pretty nasty out there with the Florida rain..

Just asking, I'm open to both

If you're not an aggressive driver, or aren't concerned with ultimate grip, then you can definitely consider an all-season like the DWS. It will certainly last longer and perform very well for normal driving. You'd only really get an advantage from the DW when pushing the car.

The DW is great in the rain, so no concerns there. Basically it comes down to whether you need or want that extra grip for when you push the car (DW) or if you just want a solid everyday tire which has respectable limits (DWS).

+1.

And the DWS will perform much better in near freezing temps as the summer only DW will tend to lose traction. Plus if you ever want to drive north with cold temps/snow a possibility, you'll be glad you have the DWS.

This was along the lines of what i was thinking. I think I'll be happy with the DWS... save a few bucks while I'm at it.

Love my DWS tires. Great grip in all weather and much quieter than RFT. Interesting tread pattern when you look at it.

If you want to go with a square setup, buy two more style 189s at 8.5x18, then go with 245/40/18 so you could rotate them. DWS would be your best bet in case you should travel north, but by the temps you've been experiencing lately (20s-30s) the DWS all-seasons would last longer and be more flexible in any kind of weather.

245s would look good on the vehicle. My wife has the same setup in her Mercedes E350 4Matic, so it should also work for you.

GL with your decision!
