If finances allows you to make that switch, I would totally do it. I would love to have a 335i any day but my budget was more towards the 328i since it has better reliability. Of course the 335i is a better car to play around with, since it has the obvious, more HP. You just have to have money to "pay to play" to get the car you're content with.
Insurance companies look at what type of car you have (sports, sedan, coupe, etc), what age group you belong to, and what your driving record is like. However, since you already have a coupe, it shouldn't make a huge difference in rates. They're both they same trim but just different parts in the engine compartment. I would totally make the switch if I could afford to repair future problems or have the time take it in for repairs. Who knows, you may end up getting lucky and purchase a car without any problems. In the end, I'm happy with my purchase on the E92 328i because it handles just the same as the 335 but just with less power. Good luck with your decision. |

i believe it's 50 dollars a month difference, but if you are moving from an old car to a brand new one i think it can be up to 75 dollars a month.

I initially wanted to buy a E92 335i but wound up with the 328 instead due to the many issues with the fuel pump. The insurance for me was approx. $15/mo difference. The insurance ratings weren't that far off.

That's the bad news your insurance does go up and if you get the coupe even more so but then again the rewards come when you drive cause there is a HUGE difference between the 2......Get the 335 and cry later

I can tell you that through State Farm Insurance, it only cost me $75.00 more per year going from a 2004 330xi sedan to a 2008 335xi coupe.

I'm in NJ too and when I recently went from an '07 328xi coupe to a '11 335x coupe my insurance went up $63/yr due to it being a newer vehicle.

Definitely forget about the 328i. The difference in insurance is negligible, and the 335i is soooooooo much more fun. I've driven in 2 different 335i's and the only problems I've had were related to the fuel pump, and BMW has extended the warranty on the pump to 120k miles. So no worries there.

I would stick with what you have now. 335i's are known for their HPFP problems, wastegate rattles, just to name a few. N52's are much more reliable, and you do not have to worry about the issues I mentioned. Yes, It may not have the power of N54's, but I'd rather sacrifice power for reliability.
