Sport suspension & winter driving

My 335d still has summer tires on it. I know I should be n winter tires. Yesterday I dropped off my 335d sport pkg (18" stock rims) & picked up my loaned which happened to be a 2011 335d without the sport pkg & all season 17" rims.
What a difference! I can now park on sheets of ice/snow that I never would have attempte d before. My question is are the tires making most of the difference or is the sport suspension compromising winter driveability... aside from the clearance.

Its 100% in the tires. Suspension only compromises ride height, nothing else.

+1. You could duplicate that buy putting winter tires on your car.

Having stiffer supension definitely compromises winter driveability. Of course tires make the biggest difference, but softer suspension absorbs more of the uneven surface from the snow. There is also more gradual movement when turning left and right and less body motion when riding over bumpy/uneven snow. Even during acceleration, softer suspension absorbs the initial take off more...especially on snow.
