Hit a pothole...now problems
Was driving home last night, after I got off the Tri-boro bridge, I ran over a pothole that I couldn't avoid and it jolted the car bad enough to pop open the ashtray lid and tilted my rearview mirror adjustment up.
After getting home, checked the tire, appears to be ok and holding air, however there's a bent rim with a crack going across...it's a style 156 wheel...3rd time this happened... since 2 yrs ago... This morning, I turend my car on and the headlights didn't auto level (after starting the car with the headlights in auto/adaptive move, the headlights dip then comes back up) Tried it twice today with no luck, the headlights does turn with the wheel when the car is moving but the pax side is way lower than the driver's side now. The owners manual states if there's a problem with the adaptive headlights, the LED indicator by the headlight switch would be blinking or a message would be displayed on the OBC. I'm thinking the headlights auto-test leveling feature was affected by the bad jolt from the pothole that damaged my wheel. Anything to check before bringing it to the dealer for something that could be minor?

Just bring it to them and explain your issue the same way you explained it here...
On the topic of potholes, the streets in the 5 boroughs are similar to driving on the surface of the moon. I actually had a moment the other day where in a split second I weighed the expense of veering into the lane beside me and possibly getting into an accident or damaging 2 rims and tires. |

This happened to me last year. Hit a big ass pothole and I cracked something on the driver side lighting assembly. The light was point down. Dealership said it is becoming a common problem and they replaced it out of warranty.

Talk o your insurance. I was just speaking to my agent the other day and they said in certain conditions if you hit something in the road an there was no way to avoid it they will fix it for you with no increase in premiums.
This is state farm btw |

Ahh NYC... drove there once, vowed to never do it again!
Sorry to hear, I think we've all been down that road at some point.

This is not insurance but the local government that did not fix the road has to fix the wheel. I would take it to town hall, pain but it is their fault

1. Free rim repair from Town Hall, or another excuse to buy new rims.
2. Free aftermarket/mtech rear bumper from insurance. 4. Free other parts for your car if insurance allows enough money to play with. 5. Free headlight replacement from Dealer. 6. At the end of the day.. Priceless. |

I tried to see if it would self test now, and now it does but not in the way it should. It does this: Driver's side self test: normal, headlight dips, comes back to normal position. Pax side self test: headlight beam dipped down, then came back up halfway and stayed there and not at the right beam angle. No I didn't buy the tire insurance not knowing how much potholes damage can occur... |

While we are on the subject of the horrible NY roads. Look at what happened to my runflat on the cross bronx today. A Rim/Tire insurance success story for a change.

I was going down York Avenue the other day and we hit a huge pothole so hard that there was a loud crashing noise and it felt like the suspension had broken.
Fortunately I left the 335i in the garage and was riding on the M31 bus. I thought if it did that to a bus what the hellwould have happened to my BMW. I haven't take the car out since the first week in January and probably won't for the next several weeks. Unfortunatly low profile tires (particularly RFTs) and a BMW sport suspension are not very good for NYC driving, CA

You seem to be having the same problems as me except in reverse. I got rear ended twice before my headlight went bad. First time I got an M-tech bumper. Only two months after that I left my car parked in Brooklyn for 2 hours and came back and my entire rear was smashed up in a hit and run during the afternoon. |

Apparently it happened on I-87N right after the triboro bridge, they never fixed that huge pothole for 2 weeks now...
the NYS thruway authority said "not responsible for road damage from november thru april", debating weather I should go thru insurance if I find my headlight assembly has to be replaced due to internal damage... what kind of horse$hit is that... |
